So, a few years ago when WM was still pretty new, I traded a bunch of 40k stuff at a premium to get into it. Then, promptly discovered no one in my area was playing it
So, here we are a few years later and its picking up steam here at last.
But, Im now finding out my Prime book is already out of date. So, is it worth getting the Prime MkII and faction books?
And with all the new jacks & characters- are they escalating the abilities and powers with the new stuff? Im just wondering if my Iron Clad/Charger/Lancers are still on par with all the newer stuff they have now- or if I'd have to pick up some of the newer stuff to keep competitive.
Guess I'll ask the same thing about my mercs, I have Magnus, with a few jacks(nomad, talon, renegade), a unit of Trolls, Devil Dogs, Gorten(with a driller and a few of the lil gun jacks).
Mostly Im just wondering if the old stuff is becoming obsolete as they advance the game and want to sell newer more effective models?
If nothing else- the warjacks are at least fun to paint, and will give me plenty to do with my airbrush

I'd start with Prime MKII and maybe the card decks (make sure they say 2010 on the
cover). You'll find them for your Mercs and Cygnar. This is the year they reset the game
edition.

I'd say yes and no.
Yes, newer models will have newer things that older models will not have no matter what.
No, models will not be pushed out of the system and there are older models that are still
a staple of tournament lists.
Mostly Im just wondering if the old stuff is becoming obsolete as they advance the game and want to sell newer more effective models?
They don't really sell new models as replacements for parts of your army, but as options
for you to rework lists for your army.

Sweet, I was worried they were going with something like a CCG marketing model where they outdated old stuff with the new. Its rather refreshing to know theyre just adding options I figured it may be something along those lines since the Cygnar plastic kit makes the Defender/Ironclad as 2 of the 3 options.
I wasnt aware of the reset- so thank you for the heads up on that. I'll hunt up some PDF's on the cards for now And see if I can find a copy of MkII to borrow before I buy it.
Thanks Malf

I would say some of the prime units and casters are still some of the best in the game. I find it very hard to field a cygnar list without an ironclad, and as for drillers I often field 2 with Gorten now. One other comment would be that units like boomhowlers have seen a nice resurgence in mk2 with better rules and easier to use abilities, and if you liked magnus mk 1 you will love magnus mk2.

And Im guessing Hordes is pretty much the same thing- except it uses critters instead of machines?
They have the sample/test MkII Horde rules up on the PP site, so Ive been looking at that (not gonna shell out for the Prime MkII til I get a few games in! )

Yes Hordes is same thing packed in Fury instead of Focus. Hordes works backwards compared to WM, the warbeasts power warlock so the armies tend to have more beasts than their WM counterparts.

Thanks Metsuri- I thought they were compatible but wasnt certain.
I may have to keep an eye out for any good hordes trades- but so far none of them are very appealing(guess I like the steampunk type stuff better!)

Adding my 2 cents in as someone who swings in and out of WM and Hordes since Prime Mk 1 and black and white cards, go for it! I've always enjoyed WM/H but was finding the rules to get pretty cluttered with all the releases over the years. Mk 2 cleaned them up a LOT and streamlined the game very nicely. It's still got the same feel, just lots smoother now. I have a large Protectorate force and I still find Zealots, Flameguard and the light 'Jacks from Prime to be staples of my armies. The newer toys are nice of course, but the old stuff is still very useful.
I'd definately wait for Hordes Mk 2 to be official to get into it, and it'll be out this summer so only a month or two to wait. The Mk 2 rule sets are compatible with each other, just not Mk 1 with Mk 2.

I got really enthused about it a few years ago. But when I tried ot get my gamer buddies into it they just looked at it and were like ...'meh'.... and blew it off like I was trying to talk them into Warzone or something.
And Thanatos- its better to trade before a new rule release- get better deals than after a fresh ruleset when people get all enthused aboutthe stuff Gamers of often fickle and have short attention spans!

I found that MK II was the restart the game needed. My FLGS many of members would never consider WM/H until MK II came out and now almost the entire club is into it.
Personally I love the MK II rule set, the rules are clearly stated examples are given how to interpert certain circumstances. I never see rules disputes in WM/H the way I seem them in 40k. I have yet to hear any one getting into a yelling match over Wm either, 40k on ther other hand.... oh man

Ya, no kidding about the rules wars that can erupt in 40k- its one of the reasons I got exhausted with tournament play (along with the continuous price hikes- and manipulating the rules to move more figs).
I found a pdf of the preview MkII rules Im looking at while I wait for a MkII prime book- and Im really liking what I see. Seeing how the mechanics work in your head before the figs even hit the table is a nice level of refinement.

Thats the difference of rule books written in closed conditions without proper testing ( GW) and rule sets openly tested by the fan base ( PP).
Get some one you know who's interested and get a couple test games in I promise you will be impressed. If you can, do this at your gaming club with people watching you will drive interest. It always works at my FLGS.

Cleaning out all the 'out of turn actions' that had pervaded the end of Mk I was a big difference. Boosting jacks was a nice thing too.
