Since chaplains always come with a nice shiny power weapon anyway, is there any point giving them a Power Fist ever?
Yes they get to have Str 8 attacks, but at initiative 1.
And since Chaplains should normally be sent against the toughest foes (cause of his Inv 4+ save) I'd have thought you want to get his attacks in first.....

This really should be in Tactics or General.
But anyway, No, don't ever give a Chaplain a Power Fist. The Power Weapon will be better 99% of the time.

Thought so thanks. Just wondering why they give the power fist option at all.

It's more of a legacy option than anything else. In previous editions, you could choose to not use the fist and it gave you a bonus attack, so was a lot better and so it was a viable choice. Now, it's not, but people still have them modeled with fists, so instead of pissing them off more, they just give you option.

awwww he's so cute!
I guess Chaplain with Powerfist is good for taking out vehicles though....
and adding some super punch right at the end of assault phase...

I actually buy a powerfist for my Terminator Chaplains as BT. Only reason I do this is cause when attacking with assault Terminators, the ton of S5 I5 Reroll Hit AND Wound claws typically outperform the S4 I5 Reroll hit power weapon attacks from the chaplain.
Also, I commonly fight elite armies (lots of multi-wound and MCs) so I suppose it makes some sense. Against guard or Eldar though I never choose to use it; only against Chaos Daemons and Tyranids and occasionally MEQs.

I suppose it's a good option if you're going all-out assault and there's no point taking a gun.
Problem is you lose the 2 hand weapons extra attack.....

To me, the only real reason not to take the Powerfist is that as an Independent Character, the Chaplain can be singled out during combat and thus might not even get a chance to strike.

Well the reason not to take a powerfist is actually the loss of initiative.....but still

Now why they couldn't outfit chaplains with lightning claws is beyond me.
A Lightning Claw would be the ultimate Chaplain Weapon.
Ability to reroll failed rolls to hit AND to wound......mmmmmmm

I miss the days where you can get a thunder hammer, now that would be a better option! )
"In previous editions, you could choose to not use the fist and it gave you a bonus attack, so was a lot better and so it was a viable choice."
Quick question, so if my chaplain has a powerfist, I lose the option to use the crozius? Where does that say that?

No, you can still choose to use the Crozius, you just don't get a bonus attack for being equipped with 2 close combat weapons.

Back when a Chaplain was I5 there was no way I'd do it. But 5th Edition ones being I4 I've been tempted to equip with a PF in some cases.
