Dude, you seriously need to read the rules for Dawn of War deployment, you can only deploy one HQ and two troop choices (with a dedicated transport counting as a separate troop choice), with everything else starting off the board, not deploy your entire army at midfield.

You are correct. I had forgotten about that when I wrote the report. In actuality I deployed Meph, DC in thier raider and 1 unit of jump packs. everyone else drove/flew on. My bad

I will also endeavour to remember a camera next time and post the full reports here as well as the blog. Thanks to everyone that made a constructive comment.

That is still 3 troop units Death Company (1), Land raider (2), Jump packs (3)

On Dakka he was Eldanar. In our area, he was Lee. R.I.P., Lee Guthrie.

@jbunny The redeemer is a dedicated transport for the dc so they count as one unit. If I am wrongbcould you please provide a reference?

@night lords I had not considered that. Good to know

The Dawn of War deployment section on Pg 93.

It even uses a Ded Trans in the example.

Don't have the page number infront of me, but look at the page the deployment is on. It gives an example that explains that Dedicated transports count towards you 2 limit. If no one else gives page numbers I will try later tonight.

neh....thats arguable. Hes a special character, and special characters are outlined in the rulebook. I would argue he is a character and can be targeted, mephiston doesnt need to be beefier than he is. There is no clear line on this, and it can be argued both ways.

I also dont like going to blogs to read reports, post it here, cheap shot at getting hits

No such rule as 'special character' Deathleaper only works on upgrade and independent chars.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.

p.49 bottom right corner would disagree with you, since there is quite a large bit of text on special and unique characters, but thanks for coming out

After reading the rule I see both points. It is another example of ambiguous writing. RAW There is no such thing as a character as stated in DeathLeapers rule on pg59 tyranid dex "Nominate a single enemy character." as Mafty pointed out pg 48 and 49 talk about Independent characters and special characters but not about characters... Now I understand that it is lame and that GW intended both special characters and independent characters to be included in this rule. However GW also intended to not allow vehicles put sideways on the 12inch deployment line that freely rotate and gain extra movement (otherwise rotation would have a cost) and so on and so on. Yet again another time to wait for a FAQ.

I for one would talk it over with my opponent prior to the game start and if they were not going to be using loop holes or admissions from the rules to try and gain an advantage I would gladly allow Meph to get hit by it.

For those about to flame me over this please read my signature line (or the forward to Warhammer ancient battles first ed) I think it is one of the most profound things that I have ever read or heard come from Jervis and should be added to every ruleset that GW makes as the third rule (first being have fun second being a die can never be rerolled more than once) The rule would read. "to prevent the occasional gamer from being a git (git is orc for douche) if the rules do not specifically allow a model or set of models to perform an action or thing then the model or set of models may NOT do that particular action or thing" I know that is why I am not a games designer. I am sure someone can do better than I.

lol not like it effected Vampire Jesus any during the game anyway. I just did it because its a waist not to elect some one when I have him in my list. A shame I dint get to kill him, he had only 2 wounds left. Was a very good game with a small mistake here and there. Tho I have to say you make outstanding battle reports, do you write them during or after the match?

As for the comment above about my nid list needing work, thats the truth, lack of models means I have to use what I got. but I have bought 6 ravenors and a trygon prime since then to beef up my army. also got rid of the Shrikes, big points sink they are. I might get some more Gene stealers or a harpy to round my list off, tho I think the Doom would also help allot, he can replace the death leaper since it has failed to do its lob the last 5 games.

anyway, great game, see you around Acsmedic

@wareagle Thanks for the compliment. I wrote them from memory, thus some of the mistakes. I usually try to take pictures. Next time I will bring a camera. I learned a couple of things during and as a result of our game which is cool and to top it off it was fun to boot I think that you shrikes were a major threat and if they would have walked on or came in earlier they could have been decisive. Dropping into range of both death company and a full tac squad was not good for them, despite that they earned my respect and may have a place in certain builds.

I will be in Beckley Friday night to get in a game with Tetrisphreak and Saturday for Ard Boyz in Charleston, look forward to our next game.

oh they are indeed a scary unit with power weapons, but so is a van guard vet squad with all power weapons, and unfortunately it would cost about the same amount of points, like 350pts, thats just to much. the reason I didnt walk them on the board is because they have no real protection vs shooting and would have all died to bolt pistol fire, thank gosh I remembered to cast FnP on them or you would have killed them all easily.

I do admit reserving my army isent for all situations, but its one of the only things that saves me from getting shot to death. your Baal preds, and your heavy pred and dread would have eaten the shrikes + genestealers if I placed them on the table during deployment since you went first. had I gone first I would have deployed them. Its really a situational thin on what im facing. it just failed miserably that time hahaha. Tho I was happy to see some one use DC, they get to much of a bad rap

Also you remembered my Nids equipment very well and described it all very well aswell for having wrote it later.

Hell yeah. I'm psyched about our game. I hope to have a better showing against you than your last tyranid battle (no offense, WarEagle).
My 2500 list is posted in the armylists forum, and is probably the one I'll be bringing to 'ard boyz. With that in mind, you can counter-build if you like but i'd prefer to play a game testing an all-comer list closer to what i might see other BA players field on saturday. Your list, your call....and good luck. We should post a batrep here after it's all said and done, i can use my Flip and do a video.

@tetrisphreak I am also looking forward to our game

I will be bringing a variant of my prelim list that has a bit more CC and a bit less shooting. I have not gotten to playtest my adjustments so I am looking forward to the game. a Video report would be cool. My wife snagged my camera and is going out of town so I will only have my phones camera.

Heck if we play at 5pm we might even get two games in

I have a flip camera, which by the way is frigging awesome for doing batreps. We're in good shape there.

In reference to special characters, if you read past the first paragraph it states special chars can be independent or upgrade, neither of which Mephiston is. Just because he is unique doesn't change the wording of DeathLeaper's rule. He cannot be affected by 'Its After Me' unless you house-rule it, which I think is what acsmedic agreed to.

Seems like deploying the DC that far forward in their Raider made a huge difference...let you smoke Calgar's ride (250 points) and then assault and kill the terminators (200 points) and Calgar (~200 points) which accounted for about 1/3 of his army Turn 1.

Also, shooting Calgar's terminators was a bad idea, if he had lost 2 of them then he could have chosen to fail his Morale with Combat Tactics, denied you the charge and left your DC in the open to be eaten up. As for Calgar, he really is lackluster for his points I would never be afraid of him and the Devastators are not worth their points. A pair of Vindicators would have been better towards that end.

As for strategy, I never deploy anything in DoW with my SoB army, nor would I with Marines. I might with a horde army like Orks where I can put 60 bodies on the lines but being able to react to your enemies deployment is too good a chance to pass up.

Is there a reason you are not scouting your Baal's?

The new acid blood works differently than your opponent stated IIRC.

Best way to handle Genestealers are bolters and sitting in cover so you always go first!

Thanks for sharing the report, not trying to harp on you but those were the things that stood out to me when reading. Look forward to seeing the pictures next time, I know how long it takes to write these,

@Tetrisphreak

lol well I have bought a bit of nids of late and started painting so I do have a much better showing now, Tho even when my list had filler point units that kinda sucked I have still won 80% of my battles with my nids, they are a fun army, you just can Ork Bum rush them at your oponet.

and as for the Death Leaper thing I agree, It was a mistake, if he is not a independent or special character. At least its a mistake I hope not to repeat now that I took the DL out of my list.

@ Calypso2ts - I appreciate the comments and I post the BR so I can have folks provide honest constructive advice. I take no offence to well thought out comments such as yours and do not consider it harping

I also usually do not deploy anything on DOW however seeing that most of his armies firepower would have to walk on I took the opportunity to get close. My opppnent put his godhammer and calgar right in front of my raider on his turn making it easy for me to get up there. Now granted I did make a mistake and should not have deployed my assault marines on the right (The DC Raider is considered a troop choice for DOW deployment)

Sometimes I scout my Baals and sometimes I do not depends on the situation. I have tried outflanking with them but unless I am sporting a flamestorm they do not do well. I have scouted allowing flank shots on enemy armor early in the game but it is situational.

I was wrong on shooting Calgars unit. I got lucky there.

I have always found in DoW that when I stick one troop unit out there (like DC) and charge them forward they tend to get themselves killed off pretty quick.

One nasty trick your opponent could have pulled was to drive an empty Rhino right next to your LR (he really should have probably blown that thing up since it seemed like he could have gotten into Melta range pretty easily...but I digress!) Blow he LR and force the raging DC to attack the Rhino needing 6's and 6's to damage it.

I have used units with Rage before and it is frustrating to watch them chase vehicles the whole game!
