I do most of my painting at night. Just get a good desk lamp and you should be just fine - I really don't see why you'd need a sun lamp or anything like that to paint.

All you need is a daylight bulb mate (and an angle-poise lamp or similar). Available just about anywhere...I've bought them from Tesco's and B&Q before now.

I do most of my painting at night. On my ceiling I have three 26 watt CFL bulbs. They are more then bright enough for painting.

Just be careful and watch out for eye strain. I do most of my painting at night and if I do it too much and don't eliminate as many shadows as possible I get horrible eye strain and that is not a fun thing. If you do get eye strain dont paint till your eyes heal it will only get worse if you continue to paint or focus on detail.

Just paint in a decently lit room. The difference between sunlight and indoor light only makes a big difference for cameras, since they can't adjust nearly as well as our eyes.

An angle poise lamp or two would be better imho
Also use a headloupe these days
The combo has reduced the eyestrain

I picked up an Ottlite a about a year ago and it really did make a huge difference in how my models came out. The colors are much cleaner because of its superbly natural light. They ain't cheap though so be prepared to make the investment. I haven't tried a simple desk lamp with a day light or natural light bulb in it, but I swear by my Ottlite. When ever I go to the LGS to paint I drag it along with me.

I have an Ottlite. Damn good light it is too. Not cheap but it was worth every penny.

thanks for the replies people.
Ive tried painting with one of those little stalk lamps, but I find the colours seem different than in daylight. Ill try one of the daylight bulbs Cypher871 mentioned.
