Deployment

After picking sides, setting up objectives, I deployed my death company, my librarian, and my assault unit in the crusader on my right flank. All of those were going to move in and try to take his objective. He deployed his Swarmlord and guards by his objective while he placed his 26 Devourergant unit and one unit of warriors in the center of the table to try and take my unguarded objective.

Turn 1
Ice Angels go first. Entering the battlefield was my entire force minus the jump pack assault squads, priests, and captain. The Land Raider and death company moved towards the objective. The crusader moved onto the field and dumped my terminators on my objective. During the shooting phase I managed only one wound on a tyrant guard. My vindicator obliterated four warriors. The crusader, terminators, and tactical squad all fired at the Devourgaunt unit and killed 14.

When the Tyranid army moved in I knew this was going to be an interesting game. He moved his carnifex brood onto the field right by his objective. His biovores took the center hill while his large genestealer unit ran on with the venomthrope in their midst. The Zoanthropes moved on along with some rippers not far from his objective on my right flank. His remaining table edge was dominated by his huge devourgaunt brood and 9 more warriors. His deathleaper came on too, but soon disappeared. Directly in the center of the field was his other tyrant.

The Tyranid shooting phase was a bit ridiculous. He had equipped his carnifex’s with devourers and his gaunts with devourers so he was rolling a ton of dice. Thank the emperor for power armor. I did loose three tactical marines and after rolling nearly 10 saves with the death company I only lost one due to “feel no pain”. The rest of his units ran across the board at me. Every unit ran at least 5 inches except one.

Turn 2

Ice Angel turn started out with some good reserve rolls. Both of my 10 man assault squads entered the field bringing along some priests and the other chaplain. One unit did land in some difficult terrain which resulted in the death of two marines. Most of my force moved up. Squad Uttuakki exited from the land raider. The death company moved up to challenge the carnifexes.

During the shooting phase the emperor was with my firing. The remaining warriors in the center ruins died from concentrated fire. The land raider on the right flank killed a tyrant guard. Most of his devourergants went down in a hail of fire from the tactical squad and terminators leaving only 3. My whirlwind fired and took out 5 genestealers. My annihilator killed one zoanthope. The 16 remaining death company members fired on the carnifexes along with the Uttuakkis and actually killed one. My rhino killed two guants with its storm bolter. In close combat the death company assaulted the remaining carnifexes died, the fexes died before they knew they were being attacked.

My foe started out his turn by rolling three 1’s for reserves. He was not happy. His entire army pushed forward. His swarmlord and guard moved towards the death company. The deathleaper reappeared in the woods behind one of my assault squads. During his shooting phase his rippers actually killed a marine, his zoanthropes rolled snake eyes to hit with their lances. The remaining shooting was equally dismal. During his assault phase he tried to assault from cover with his swarmlord but rolled some more snake eyes and didn’t reach.

Turn 3

Ice Angel turn started out with my remaining 5 man assault squad landing not far from my objective. I realized that I had moved most of troops away from it. Whoops. Any ways, my crusader moved forward along with the nearby assault squad. The Death Company and librarian moved towards the tyrant.

During the shooting phase I killed a zoanthrope killed some guants and wounded the Tyrant with my annihilator, nothing too amazing. In close combat the death company charged the Swarmlord, they quickly dispatched the guard but only managed to do three wounds on the Swarmlord. In return two Death Company perished. The last zoanthrope also died from my other assault squad.

During his turn all of his ravenors and his trygon prime entered the field. He placed the trygon right by my objective with some raveners scattering almost off the table on my left flank. The other unit came in by the death company and also almost scattered off the table. During his moving phase he continued moving up. He was in charge range with several of his units.

The Tyranid shooting phase was his best so far. He killed 4 members of Squad Uttuakki with his rippers! His Tyrant killed one of the assault squad members in the middle. The large devourerguant unit fired 84 shots at my tactical squad. This resulted in me taking 27 armor saves. Needless to say the entire unit disappeared under a hail of flesh eating parasites. His larger unit of raveners shot and killed one assault marine. The trygon prime fired at the same unit and killed 2 more.

In the assault phase he assaulted my center assault unit with his Tyrant. The deathleaper assaulted my other assault squad. His genestealers after their running move assaulted my terminator unit. The Deathleaper attacked and rolled horrible which resulted in nothing. My captain dropped him like a snotling. In the death company swarmlord close combat I lost three more marines before the swarmlord was taken down. In the Tyrant assault he killed another two marines before I killed him with my powerfist. The genestealers took care of 3 terminators while all of the genestealers died except one. That lone genestealer then turned and fled. This turn of close combat saw a lot of deaths on both sides.

Turn 4

Ice Angel movement was pretty severe. My rhino moved up to block the devourgants all while the center assault squad jumped left to assault from the side. Both landraider stayed put to fire all weapons. The death company moved to engage the ravener unit. All in all my units were moving to hold objectives and cut off enemy attack lines. The shooting phase was rather disappointing; I wounded the trygon twice, killed two raveners along with a handful of gaunts. In the assault phase my terminators assaulted the trygon, they lost three and caused two wounds. The combat continued. My assault squad on the left flank assaulted the gaunts and killed 17 all together but that still left 9 to deal with. On the right flank Squad Uttuakki killed all the rippers but two bases. The death company killed all the raveners with the loss of only one of their own from rending. At the end of this combat phase the entire right half of the table was clear of tyranids except for some random spore mines and rippers.

During his phase he moved his untouched ravener unit towards my objective. His lone genestealer kept running and his warriors moved through some ruins to flank my assault unit that was killing his gaunts. After a lucky running move his raveners moved close enough to assault my 3 man assault squad holding my objective. In close combat his trygon killed the remaining two terminators; his raveners killed the assault squad along with the priest. On the other side Squad Uttuakki killed the remaining rippers and my other assault squad killed the remaining 9 guants. All of these combats were very much one sided ordeals.

Turn 5

I moved up everything I could to try and kill the raveners and trygon. The first thing to fire was my crusader. It rapid fired its hurricane bolter and caused the one and final wound! Everything else fired at raveners and killed 6 of them. My assault squad assaulted his warrior brood and killed 7 of them while only loosing one marine. At the end of my turn he only had 2 warriors and three raveners on the field. The game was over but we completed the turn any ways.

During his turn he assaulted my last assault squad with his raveners. They killed two and I caused three wounds. In the only other combat I killed two more warriors and lost one of my own.

GAME OVER

Ice Angel Summary
Death Company rules, even though they are a bit over priced. I almost never use them in smaller games but they are great when you can use them in these big games. Getting the charge in this game is where I won. Sanguinary Priests are also worth their weight in gold. I probably prevented 20 wounds with feel no pain throughout this game. All in all the game was a lot of fun even though I almost felt bad for how poorly my opponent was rolling. He made some large errors that we talked about but still a lot of fun to play a 4,000 point game.

Shooting death company with anything that allows FnP and 3+ saves. I hope he gets batter over time with the bugs. Good game!

And whilst you're pointing and shouting at the boogeyman in the corner, you're missing the burglar coming in through the window.

Well, Duh! Because they had a giant Mining ship. If you had a giant mining ship you would drill holes in everything too, before you'd destory it with a black hole
