So I have a doubles tourney this wknd, my partners either playing an ork tide or his chaos marines. I'm allowed 1 HQ and 2-3 troops and one of each other slot. Either me or my partner can take 1 extra in each heavy, fast, or elite slot. The phase out rule isn't applying and i have no idea what to field competitively, any suggestions

You're limited to 1 in each - elite, fast, heavy? Or just 1 of those units total? Regardless, I'd say Destroyers x5 if you're limited to 1 total. If it's 1 each combined w/ your partner, see what he's gonna bring. It's all pretty much contingent on that anyway lol. But, if PO isn't applying, i say use The Deceiver for HQ.

edit: i think i get it. if he brings 1 Fast, you can't bring any. If you bring 1 Heavy, he can't bring any, right?

In that case, i say leave the heavy to him, whether he goes Ork or CSM (I assume he probably has good heavy selections - Kan Wall? Wagons? Oblits?).
For elites, I LOVE PARIAHS. If PO is not in effect, take them, IMO. Solid rules, stats, weapon. Nobz can be troops, but Dreadnought or even Kommandos may be sexier. But if you decide to take the Elite spot, Pariahs have great utility, especially if no PO
For fast, I think I'll still take Destroyers over any Ork, CSM fast if limited to just 1 unit.
