Hey guys,

I recently picked up the old Technical Readout: 3050 and it has a lot of good info in it about the various mech designs and their in-game stats. I noticed however, that Catalyst Games has both print and PDF record sheets that go along with the various technical readouts. I am planning on picking up the 3050 record sheets in PDF form simply for ease of use (so I don't have to fill out blank record sheets by hand for everything). I was wondering though, do the record sheets themselves have enough info on their own to use the mechs in game without the use of a Technical Readout book? For example, if I wanted to use some mechs from 3060, is there anything in the Technical Readout: 3060 book that I would need, or could I simply buy the 3060 record sheets and be done with it? Obviously I'd miss out on the nice fluff, but from a strictly gameplay/rules perspective, are the record sheets enough?

Thanks,

Hordini

Record Sheets are exactly that. JUST the sheet of the 'Mech. The only place it could possibly be an issue to not have the TRO is some sot of piece of of equipment on a design you were unfamiliar with.

But that info should be in Total Warfare, TechManual, or TacOps.

SO no, no reason to buy the TRO unless you want the fluff.

I haven't played battletech in about 10 years, but I used to play it alot. I believe every technical readout published before FASA went under is sitting in a box somewhere in my parent's basement (even the aerospace only one). That said, they're purely fluff, just like most of the sourcebooks. If you have the rulebook(s) and the record sheet you're set to play. Field manuals and technical readouts just add character to your games.

The other thing Catalyst just started is REALLY skimping on the printed Record Sheets. Instead of all the variants listed from a single entry in a TRO (such as the Victor in the book, and the couple variants it describes) the printed Record Sheets ONLY put out the variant that is listed in the book. It does NOT give you the other variants.

So buy the PDFs, it should have all the variants in them.

Again, the PDFs SHOULD have all the Record Sheets of all the variants listed in the TRO. The print versions do NOT.

Cool, sounds like the PDFs are the way to go then. I'll just get the PDFs rather than the printed sheets. The PDFs seem like the easier option anyway, then I can print however many I want and don't have to worry about using a copy machine - the extra variants are a bonus of course.

Just to be sure, if there is an "Unabridged" version of the PDF, get that one.

No, get Solaris Skunk Werks. It is free, and has actually been updated in the last 3 years. It still has some minor bugs, but at least you can make ANY 'Mech from any era with SSW.
