I was watching Equilibrium again last night and got to thinking: how cool would it be to have a Grammaton Cleric as a form of Imperial assassin? So this morning I wrote one up:

Grammaton Cleric Elite choice 0-1 in any Imperial army

WS BS S T W I A LD Sv
5 5 3 3 2 5 3 8 -, 3+ Cover, 3+ Invulnerable(Close Combat only)

Unit Type: Infantry
Wargear: 2 Grammaton pistols,Frag Grenades
Special Rules:
Gun Kata
Furious Charge
Independent Character
Fearless
Both guns Blazing
Inspiring presence

Grammaton pistol
Range Str AP Special rules
12” 4 3 Pistol, power weapon

Gun Kata: Due to extensive training in Martial Arts and Marksmanship along with near constant practice of the Kata stances a Grammaton Cleric receives a 3+ cover save against all shooting and a 3+ Invulnerable save in Close Combat.

Both guns Blazing: A Grammaton Cleric may fire both Grammaton pistols in the shooting phase. Furthermore he may attempt to fire both pistols twice in any shooting phase, but in order to do so he must first pass a Leadership test.

Inspiring presence: So calming is the effect of fighting alongside a Grammaton Cleric that any unit he joins gains the Fearless Universal Special Rule.

I am thinking Points cost should be Somewhere between 130-150, WS, BS, S, and T are equal to a Lord Commissar and the bestowing Fearless on his unit is the same as a SM chaplain; the possibly 4 AP 3 pistol Shots should be worth a good 20-30 points as would the better Saves than the Commissar.

I gave the Cleric a Variable Save type because I couldn't justify a firing stance ignoring a flamer(hence the cover save for shooting), and the reflexes/Martial arts training seemed like a reasonable justification for invulnerable in melee. I know many may find 3+ to be a bit over the top but note he can still be insta-killed by Str 6 attacks that penetrate his defenses.

Fluff-wise The Grammaton Clerics Originated on a Hive World that underwent centuries of civil war before finally falling under the control of a Clergy dedicated to the God-emperor who enforced a strict regimen of prayer and meditation, and founded the Grammaton organization as elite enforcers of the edicts handed down. Eventually the Planet and it's inhabitants came under the scrutiny of the Ordo Hereticus who investigated the Clergy for any possible trace of heresy; after a decades long investigation Inquisitor Cathar found that no serious deviation from the approved articles of faith had taken place on the planet, Yet he was very interested in the actions and abilities of the Grammaton Clerics. Inquisitor Cathar handed down an edict to the Planetary Governor-Cardinal that the planet was to be a recruitment and training facility to supply the Imperium's forces with Grammaton Clerics when needed, and that any Imperial Force may request their services as needed.

Sorry The Fluff is a bit naff i literally just wrote it in the last half-hour; any comments or glaring rules issues would be greatly appreciated and I think that this could be fun(yet kinda epic) in friendly games. The only things I am terribly concerned about right now is the exact points cost and that the 3++ saves may be a bit to much.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

What exactly does it mean that the Grammaton Pistols have the "power weapon" special rule? They're pistols, they just count as normal CCWs in close-combat.

Since you want him to have power weapons (and I'm not sure what the justification for that is) you'll need a rule that specifically says "he counts as armed with two power weapons in close-combat."

I think by "counting the pistols as a power weapon", he means that the pistols also add power weapon attacks to his profile due to their lethality.

I know that's what it means, but it is unclear. I am suggesting he clarify with a special rule.

In general, when creating a new unit, assume everyone who will look at it is an idiot who needs everything spelled out. It avoids confusion.
