Howdy Dakka! Hate to bore you with another "I'm new to the army!" type post, but I'm in a bit of a conundrum with my army list. I was originally thinking of picking up some Bane Thralls, but I felt like I was taking the easiest and more "point-and-click" unit choice, so I switched over to 10 Mechanithralls with a Necrosurgeon. Now my question is this, can the unit win combats? Or are they just meat shields? Because I'm lacking on Anti-Infantry options, and I was hoping the Mechanithralls could fill that niche in my list, of course, with some help with Denny and Crippling Grasp ! Any and all answers are greatly appreciated. (Right, here's the list at 35 points) Denny +5 Deathjack Deathripper Deathripper Skarlock Thrall 6 Bile Thralls 10 Mechanithralls Necrosurgeon + Stitch Thralls Withershadow Combine Necrotech+Scrap Thrall

Yes, Mechanithralls can kill most things, they're fast and hit hard. What they don't do is hit well (MAT 5) so you'll need to give them some help. Deneghra's 'The Withering' Feat and Crippling Grasp spell will help out in this regard.
Bane Thralls are average at hitting (MAT 6) but hit like a ton of bricks. They are also hard to weaken at range due to Stealth.
Both are good units. I don't think Cryx have a bad choice from Prime.

Their MAT of 5 was the main point of contention between the two.
Which would you personally suggest? I'm leaning towards the Mechanithralls, because the Surgeon can heal 'em up, whereas the Banes need Tartarus (Who costs more) to keep 'em going, and will probably be targeted whenever possible.

Mechanithralls are cheaper to buy as well as to field. Mechanithralls are also more versatile as they have two attacks.
They do require a little more help if you plan to use them as more than meatshields.

If you take Mechanithrall, you'll want a Necrosurgeon to keep the unit going.

Mechanithrall are supported by the Necrosurgeon.
The Banethralls would be suppored by the UA.
Though different ways, they do incread the staying power of each unit.
Mechanithralls are more numerous if you want the raw numbers and have access to Brute Thralls to increase their damage output and get some medium bases into the list if you need them to screen.
One con though is if it gets too numerous the lower command radius can be a bother vs. enemy lists wilth more AOE and horde control weapon/magic...the Surgeon(s) might not be able to keep up with the rezzing....and then there's the snipe.
At least with the BaneThrall standard you can pick up...(or be cheecky and leave it somewhere safe).
So, they both have pros and cons obviously.
At the end of the day go for what you think is better looking or a better buy.
Note: the new tiers might make you pick one or the other, so watch out for that stuff.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

Yeah, I've definitely gotta see what the Tiers have in store. I'm hoping I get something good for pDenny or pGoreshade.

Been Around the Block

I have used the McThralls quite a bit recently with 3 Brute Thralls and a necrosurgeon. This unit has quite a lot of staying power and can really hit hard. Some casters can debuff the opposition while others can give such useful abilities as stealth. I have taken down even heavy warjacks with them. If your opponent fails to remove them, then the necro will spawn more to keep the attack going. It is possible to end up with more than you started.
Probably the biggest threat to such a unit will be an opposition with a lot of spray attacks. The command range forces a large unit to bunch as does terrain and that can be very painful against spray.
