I have read the entire thing about the assault phase in the rulebook several times, but I don't understand several things: (And I don't have a SM codex yet)

Are close combat weapons different from each other(is a chainsword in some way better than a choppa?), or is WS the only thing that matters?

Can models assault if they don't have close combat weapons? (Space marines armed with bolters specifically)

What if a model has two close combat weapons?

Is a powersword a close combat weapon?

Excuse my noobishness and lack of a codex.

1) Normal CCW are all the same. Some weapons, like Power Weapons or Thunder Hammers have extra rules, found on page 42.
2) Yes. You don't need a CCW to fight in CC. Also Space Marines (from C:SM) have Bolt Pistols as well, so they technically have a CCW.
3) Page 42 outlines what happens there.
4) Yes. Page 42 again!

If it's designed for close combat, it's a CCW

And 2 CCW's give an extra attack (i.e. 2 Lightning claws or a power/chainsword with bolt/plasma/las pistol)

If you ever get Terminators the storm bolters they have don't count as a CCW as they are assault weapons, so although they have POWER FISTS *In a god-like epically echoey voice* they only have one CCW.

Hope this helps sort abit more confuddled-sion out

- Coldstrike Cadre 1600pt

Ethancol - not true in all cases. Lightning claws, powerfists and similar *require* 2 of the *same* in order to get the bonus attack.

So it is irrelevant that a stormbolter isnt a CCW, as powerfists need another powerfist to get that extra attack - and in addition pistols, which DO count as a CCW, are Assault 1 weapons now

IT sounds like you have some 4th ed hangovers, bust that book out and have a read
