Alright; with the Macharius on the table being a lot of cutting and gluing I was getting a little itchy to start painting stuff and it being a ways off from that point I thought I'd start the Space Marine Blog.

Picked up the Space Marines from the Black Reach set; sure not exactly the greatest but then it was a great deal AND its adding to some models I already have painted.

So on the To Do List:

- Space Marine Captain
- Space Marine Sergent x2
- Space Marines w/ Bolters x 20
- Space Marines w/ Rocket x 2
- Space Marines w/ Lascannon x1
- Space Marines w/ Flamer x2
- Black Reach Dreadnaught
- Space Marine Terminators x7 ((including 5 Black Reach Termi's))


To start off the fun:






The Sergent needs a few touches here and there for weathering and highlights yet; and the Space Marine Captain has quite a bit of work left including the cape and the red ropes, the Bolter needs to be finished ((screwed up here and filled the engravings with gold paint but wanted them to stay black to stand out)) The banner needs lots of work yet, and as well many details around the head and chest decorations.


Also should note that basing is being left alone for a while because I've been debating if I want to keep the desert basing I have been going with so that they stand the same as my Imperial Guard Army or if I want to do something different like black rubble/city debris. That and I don't have any my basing stuff on hand because of the moving around.


And will be updating as I go along.

Looking good so far keep it up.

Pictures a bit bright, the Sergent is finished short of basing; started the SM Termi Sergent and did some the finer details on the Captains chest decor.

Thanks for the comments Unclean one; I'm hoping to keep this paint level through out this army so it will likely take some time to complete. But I has my IG army to have some fun with for the meantime.


I was kinda hoping for more responses on the Termi' helmets, the white ones I mean; kinda stuck with them since I'm not sure if I like it. I want to add a brighter red to the eyes, as the blood red isn't popping enough to look like its glowing, least not to me. Though that was a fast snap and it is brighter when its sitting on the table in front of you.

The helmet looks a bit dirty with the wash.

One suggestion I saw for proper shading on white was to basecoat with 50/50 Skull White/Astronomicon grey, and then hit the raised areas with pure skull white - it gets rid of the dirty blend you get on white when you highlight it.

But otherwise, looking great!

What combination are you using to get that lovely blue?

Blue is straight up "Enchanted Blue" with a black/blue wash pending area for shadow.


I've tried the astronomicon grey before and wanted go for the more "blue" shadow that you see on the box art. Which is why I used the blue wash and slowly highlighted.

Question - is that termie helmet white, or is it a bone color? It looks a rather bone shade on my monitor, which I like as a different take against the traditional pure white. Otherwise, it's hard to know what it looks like since the hue/brightness is different when compared to the photos above it (you can tell this easily by the color of the paper they're standing on). I'd recommend a quick DIY lightbox if you don't have one.

Your painting is very clean, I go back and forth a lot between liking cleanliness and then at other times preferring a good weathering. As clean figures, I like them.

Still have to apply decals and drill out gun barrels, but all of that will be done at the end of the painting/basing.



Right now I am stuck on deciding what to base them; do I go urban which would match their colour scheme more? Or do I go desert as my home table has a desert base and all my IG stuff is desert as well. It makes sense fluff wise as it would make all my armies be ready to meet in the desert. But then that's only good on home table... and back to the debate.

Still a bit of a work in progress...

well its been a while since I've been going hardcore at my Marines; will have to post some updates to its progress and it has progressed . However I got sidelined with my airbrush... so for now....



DONE! The laptop, now to abuse my PS3! ahaha

Poking away at my Marines, noticed that I have more bits for assault terminators. But I got whicked cramps in hand though, was like being electrocuted, shot right up my arm.

The assult termies loin cloth is outstanding, the blending of the red is beautiful.

If you want your termies eyes to be brighter, try some blazing orange as a highlight? (from earlyer post)
