I recently found that bosspoles, seem to be the extremely favoured kit of nobz, which invalidates most of already assembled ones, as I filled in the hole where the bosspole usually goes. So I was thinking, in the codex it says that a "bosspole" could be anything that represents their status, and included metal jaws and gobs as examples, besides the actual "pole." I have no problem with sculpting hats, so I was wondering, would this be tournament legal, and would anyone have trouble recognizing it as a bosspole?

Maybe a commissar hat with purity seals on it (with a red X crossing it out) or spikes sticking out of the hat, or any bitz the ork stole from enemies.

as long as you're consistent (all hats = boss poles), i'd have trouble believing that any tourney wouldn't allow that conversion. IIRC, the old codex had boss poles interchangable with iron gobs for the same effect.

In principle, fine, it's just a banner worn on the head .

Unless all your other orks go bare-headed, you'll need some way of clearly distingushing 'hats that count as bosspoles' from other headgear. Making them absurdly impressive (to another ork) would be the obvious solution - ridiculously tall or big or festooned with captured enemy regalia, etc, and keep all other hats/helmets plain.

All I know is I would have a hard time not laughing my ass off at several nobs with ginormous sombreros.

It would be a good laugh, though. Not a mocking one.

Well, I added a KC Royals hat on one of my nob's because that unit keeps on failing horribly.

A good point, an easier way would be to use an actual nob from the nobz kit instead of just putting a PK on a boy.

Top hats, this sir is a brilliant idea, maybe an orky glyf on it or some sort of trophy (Skull, teeth, something) or use a stolen commissar hat or the like ^^

That's the one! That, or something similar would look amazing on an ork nob or bosspole carrier!

Yeah, no kidding. Bosspoles are one of the big reasons I magnetize the bases and carry my army on cookie sheets.

You mean on my list? Or do you mean, did the box come with the poles? Either way, the answer to both is yes. Thank you for the feedback everyone, nice to see that so many people appreciate the loveliness of hats. I did a fedora-ish hat on one of my nobs, and I'll hopefully get pictures up soon. For the others though, I'll take your advice and add top hats, as they're much more impressive. The main reason I did the fedora is to get a sense for the whole hat aesthetic, and also because I was watching the Indiana Jones trilogy at the same time.
Also, any idea on how a hat would look on a nob wearing a helmet?

Well, if a nob is wearing a big hat as a status symbol, it makes perfect sense that wearing another hat on top would be even more impressive. Each extra hat would need to be tied/bolted/spiked onto those below, of course...
