Is there a competitive build for tyranids at 1500 pts???

I can't find or even build a competitive nids list. Does such a thing exist and if so what does it contain???

@ 1500 My nid list has 3 tervigons, 2 trygons, 3 carnifexes, and 20 Termagants in 2 squads of 10. it does well.

I just used the following at a little tournament to reasonable effect:

Tervigon w/TS&AG (HQ)
3x Hive Guard
3x Zoanthropes in Pod
8x Ymgarl
18x Genestealers w/Toxin
10x Genestealers w/Toxin
T-fex w/Rupture cannon

I have a 1500 gt coming up and I'm thinking of

3 tervigons- ag ts (1 hq's 2 troops)

3 units of 2 hive guard

2 units of 5 stealers

2 units of 10 gaunts

2 trygons- ag

Haven't tested it yet though

I was quite happy with its performance and wouldn't change a single point. I will say that it took me a couple months to get even decent at playing the list. Now I am much more aggressive with my t-fex, giving them onslaught every turn. I also got a lot better at positioning my tervigons so that they weren't within 6" of termagants until they needed to be. And also when about to receive a charge with termagants I got good at trailing some back so that even after their 'defender reacts' moves, they were still within 6" of a tervigon and therefore eligible for counter-attack and poison.

This also sounds really fun.

Basically I like the big monsters and I want to run a fair amount of them. I can't stand the little ones, although I realise they have a purpose and I will run them if need be.

I was hoping to run something along the lines of both of your lists, basically combining elements of both.

Very interesting list; I like the aggressive use of Onslaught.

More than anything else, THIS is what I want an FAQ on. At present, I play like you do (the most conservative possible interpretation).

I've always played it as counter attack and furious charge are checked for at the start of the assault phase, but poison is checked for at the initiative step in which the gaunts are wounding.

I'm thinking of using Onslaught and Catalyst on a large unit of Dakkafexes. Not much can take down a full unit of Carnifex when they can potentially move 12", shoot and have FNP. Twelve wounds at T:6 with a 3+ sv and FNP is scary when mixed with 36 shots.
