Does anybody know how to add weathering to bases and the bottom of feet other than buying a weathering kit from Forge World or GW / Citadel? Some one told me make up was possible but wanted to see if anyone had used it or tried anything else before i give it a go?
There is some cheap weather powders sold for model train sets. You get three colors for $10 USD and they work great. I will find the link for you in a bit. Still at work.
Here it is:
Bar Mills Models Weathering Powder Kit #0045. They have it on their website for $9.95 USD. It comes with four different colors and they do stay put on the model. Even though they say that they do not need a sealed but I did just to be sure.

If you want to make the feet look dusty, you can use graveyard earth paint.
Just put a bit on a mixing palete water it down until it's almost transparent, add a drop of washing up liquid or acrylic flow improver (there are other things that do the same but I don't know what they are) to break up surface tension then give the area a wash of the liquid.
If you give it a couple of washes it looks very dusty. I find I prefer it to the FW weathering powders.

You can grind up chalk pastels to make cheap but effective weathering powders.
Check out my gallery here Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!
