Whats good Dakka? I recently began playing 40k and decided to start new. I dropped my Tau and headed for Orkz, an army I always thought of playing and plays completely different. I got one of my friends into 40k and decided to split the Assault on Black Reach set with him. I played a couple of games with him and my other friends to show them the basics. Out of the 4 friends that play, each has chosen a completely different army; Tau, Marines (White Scars), Tyranids, and the last one is debating between Eldar and IG. Right now I have the basic Orks from the box and not sure what to get next.
My Tau friend seems to be the worst of the enemy. I mean, our armies are the complete opposite. He usually has the normal sqaud of Tau with pulse rifles and includes two with rail rifles. He moves his men within 30" and opens fire. Once I get near, he moves back. By the time I get to him, I have only a few Boyz (If I'm lucky), Nobz, and my Warboss. I was considering a Trukk but the armor seems too pathetic . My Tyranid friend only has one unit. But from a small 1 unit v 1 unit skirmish I saw, they look scary. He bought 8 Genestealers that absolutely wrecked the opposing Space Marines. He is planning on getting 3 Warriors and they too look intimidating. I was just hoping someone could post some tips for a new Ork player and perhaps a decent list for starters. Thanks a lot.

Here's a 500pts list that I've had a lot of success with. I'd pick up another half of AoBR and you should have a good start on your army.

I was thinking of going with Lootas and Burnas next, any other suggestions?

The next thing you should get is definitely more Boyz and another AoBR is the cheapest way to do it. I would never run any sort of list without at least forty Boyz and you only have twenty as of now.
