Well, I have finally come to the point where I am mostly done with my Ogre Kingdoms and would like to start a new army. This doesn't mean I'll be throwing off the reigns as Brusier, simply just doing something else. I'm going for something that is unexpected and fun. Khorne Beastmen sounded cool to me. Any suggestions? BTW, Dark and High Elves as well as Empire and VC's I won't do. That should narrow the selection.

You're right behind me!? (Okay, I couldn't resist )

I think branching out into something unique is a great idea- I'm trying to switch over to "all trees" for my wood elves to make it a little more unique, too!

As far as what to suggest- I'll have to think about what could be unexpected. I've personally considered an "all skinks" lizardmen list (although similar things are not all that uncommon). Beastmen are a great idea! Even with the new book, they haven't caught on that much around here.

What do you mean by Khorne Beastmen? I bought the book when it came out (although I since traded it, deciding not to start them...) and I didn't see anything in there about Khorne particularly. Although I'll admit, I was mostly focused on the units/rules, not the background material.

Combat oriented with many hammer units. And my title worked! You responded. Yes, interesting would be an all Gnoblar army but I'm talking about army wise. I'm really diggin' beastmen especially since with the release of the new codex, I'd be able to collect an army and have it be the same for a while.

What? Like every single beastmen list?

Every beastmen list is combat oriented, every beastmen list has a ton of hammers. Every beastmen unit is a hammer, infact. We have no anvils.

Well thank you. I'm just interested in another combat army that can pack some cool magic, which I hear beastmen can.

Beastmen magic? I've heard nothing but resounding "meh" with their current lores. Dark Elves and general Chaos (Daemon and Warrior) I hear more good things about.

Beastmen Magic is generally support magic. They can have an offensive magic force by taking the Staff of Darkoth, Hagtree Fetish, and the possibly the Skull of Rarkos.

True, but when 8th edition hits all of the casting values might be going up, in which case beastmen magic might be more viable.

And about the title... maybe I should try something like this . I can't get a reply to save my life in the army lists forum!!

I think beastmen are a great bet, but we'll know more next week about what units will be best to take under the new edition. I'll comment more then!

I continue to be intrigued by Lore of the Wild and am always happy when I stumble across the rare batrep with a GBS in it. Wild has some untapped possibility in 7th, but I think it won't hold for 8th if power dice are generated as rumored. You need a lot of dice to make these Wild spells happen, which 8th simply won't have I fear

All the same: to the scheming board!

Salvage, with you on this. I've spent much time considering starting a Beastman army to play around with the magic build.

There *was* a batrep over on TWF you might have seen where someone maxed out on magic and magic boosting, to summon as many extra big monsters on to the board as possible. Not the route I'd go, but interesting nonetheless.
