Hi guys,

The percentages system is back in for 8th edition and I wanted to look at how this has effected my army list composition and I found it incredibly difficult to field two (2) heroes at the 1000 point level. Whether this is a good thing or bad thing I'm not sure. I was wondering if the percentages still hold true at the smaller levels.

25 Max - Hero
25 Min - Core
50 Max - Special
25 Max - Rare

So that means we can only have 250 max points for our heroes section. Will the percentages be different for lower games? Or am I just missing the point that we are moving away from heroes? Or am I just being greedy? ... because I always loved decking out my heroes with all different combinations of magic items and I think I might miss it. This of course, doesn't happen when we start getting 2000+ lord lists of course.

I read in one of the rumours that you can still have lords in smaller games. Not sure on the accuracy, because that seems a little powerful.

I wouldn't make any actions based upon it until it actually comes out, though.

No of course not, I'm just interested in how my lists might turn out. I'm just looking forward to getting my hands on the new edition I guess

  • [*]Army construction is moving back to percentages.

    25% max lords (includes mounts)
    25% max heroes
    25% MIN core
    50% max special
    25% max rare

Just so I am clear on this, as there has been some misunderstanding, you can have a lord level character leading a small army if you want to (within the points), you don't have to take a hero as you do currently. I have heard nothing about unit champions being the general

You have to take a minimum of 3 units, not including characters.

    [*]Categories for core/special/rare are remaining.
[*]Special Choices: No more than 3 of the same type - Examples; No more than 3 units of Chaos Knights, or 3 units of Forsaken etc in the same army.
Rare Choices: No more than 2 of the same type - Examples; No more than 2 Hellcannons, or 2 Chaos Giants etc in the same army.
[*]High Elves ignore all these restrictions as they have the Elite Army special rule.
[*]These numbers are increased when having games of 3000 points or more. (Up to 6 special and 4 rare) Could be +1 of the same type of special and rare per 1000pts.

  • BTW restricting the HQ to 50% of the army seems not that restrictive

    What army are you playing?

I can easily jam 2 saurus scar vets with gear and magic items in the new restrictions at 1000 points.

    O&G- 3-4 characters no problems.

It's not really the foot characters that take up the points but trying to field a little magic offense/defense

Now I understand for 1000 pt games it may not be much of an issue but I like to have bases covered (it also helps me build my bigger point lists). With the power level being added to the cast roll, it could be preferable to make wizards level 2. This of course eats some points.

Just for a reference, I play wood elves and lizardmen.

After I have a level 2 spellsinger, I won't have much for items and a noble. Same applies to having a skink priest and scar-vet (maybe skink chief which is not my favorite unless with war-spear)

Am I just being greedy here? or do others like to field two (2) heroes, one combat and one magic?

Currently even at 1999 points for my lizardmen I run 1 level 2 mage, and he almost never casts as he stashes his power dice in the diadem, for 5DD and 1 DS.

For my O&G it is 1 level 2 mage with 2 dispel scrolls and a BSB with Morks spirit totem in a unit of 35 NGs. For 6 DD and 2 dispel scrolls

Now this will change over 1500 points as the low level casters for these armies are relatively cheap, as are fighting heroes and it should mean 4 characters instead of 3.

At 1000 points (a size I must admit I haven't seen played in 2-3 years, and that was in a GW store) it would likely be a general and a mage in 8th ed.

    Short answer? Yes.
Noone needs more than 500 points HQ in 1000 point games. Let the dragons rest for bigger games

See that shadow gainst the wall?..Bingo!

For me the 25% max heros in 1000pts really hurts as my Tomb king Neccesary characters are 215pts basic, so I can't chariot up my tomb prince.
