I decided it's high time I started a blog of all my various bits and bobs. Sorry in advance for blurry pictures. Today I wanted to show everyone the start I've made on the first company of the fists of angels. Here is my company captain with dual thunder hammers:

I know you've mentioned about the pictures, but honestly I can't really add anything without better pictures. If you go to the article section there is an article on how to take good photos as well as one on how to construct a light box. If you read these then add some clearer pictures you'll find your work will get more responses.

Modelling wise the dual wield thunder hammers look interesting, can't wait to see him properly.

Thanks lennysmash. Does anyone know if a lightbox made out of a shoebox with white insides/white paper works? I will also try to find a tripod to steady the camera as I'm sure I didn't help things.

Yeah that should work absolutely fine, I literally use two bits of paper. Day light is the best for low budget shots like mine with a light up over to eliminate shadows.

As for the tripod you can get away with placing the camera on a book or something to get the right height.

Ok for everyone who hasn't noticed I have edited the original post with new pics in the interest of not having hundreds of pics clogging up the first page. From now on I intend to post updates in new posts.

First things first, these pictures are a vast improvement waaagh!

On the painting side of things, I would say I think you need to restrict the metallics a little. The reason for this is that they tend to distract the eye, making the model look 'busy'.

With metallics in most cases less is definitely more. Instead of the silvers why not try using a grey highlighted with white. This will help to improve the aesthetic of the model overall.

Now I named him captain Alonzo for two reasons the first is that when I finally work out a chapter master I want him to be able to say "Alonzee(spelling?) Alonso". Anyone who can guess the other reason by 9pm tomorrow gets a cookie.

I also thought it would be a good idea to post what I am aiming for over the next few decades:
In no particular order.
Armoured spearhead.
Brass scorpion.
Tower of skulls.
First company.
Tenth company.
Battle company.
Khornate daemons.
A "Hounds of huron" but slightly different as you will see.
A vampire counts army including Vlad, Konrad, Mannfred and isabella von carstein.
And finally a war/lord of the ring army including no less than nine nazgul on fell beasts.

Writing it like that has made me see just how big a job it is .

I probably should have mentioned this earlier but C&C needed desparately. Noone answered my little quiz at all but the answer is that one of the co-writers of Its hammer time's first name was alonso according to that well hated site wikipedia.

football bit is purely guess work as I do not care for many sports

Didn't think of the titanic bit but it's definately not football. I spend to long playing with the little plastic men to take much notice of sport but thanks for trying.

there's some painting things you need todeal with. first off the models looked a bit paint clumped, it would help to water down your paints, as well as to be a bit more careful with how much paintyou place on the model, as was said about the metal. the ink washes of the metal are also a bitover done and you should use maybe just a thin layer of wash.


the blue armor needs some shadow or highlights this can be done with layering other blues, or by inks. i layer the blues of my guardsman pants by having it start with foundation paint dark blue (necron abyss i think), then layer with enchanted blue, then mix of enchanted with ice, then a small layer of ice. each layer gets smaller as i get away from first color and provides highlights and some shadow and i think loks cool, it provides more detail then just painting a model blue and saying he's done.

i'm not trying to be mean at all, these are just things i noticed and you can def improve. when i was young i was painting models black with barely a face and callingthem guardsmen haha. now im not the best painter but i've learned some tricks and i'm a ton better thanwhen i started.
