i really want to start playing 40k and got some basic ideas on how to play and what not. but i was wondering if the black reach box set is a good set for starting off, if so what do you guys think.

Black Reach is perfect for starting off. It'll give you two roughly-sized forces, and you can play with a friend using Black Reach. Both armies can be easily expanded, and equipment for playing is included in the box.

Id recomend it, its how im starting into 40K and i love the set.
