So Tau have an upgrade that allows a squad to fire at multiple targets. If they assault that turn, can only the units that fired at the assaulted squad attack?

I realize the first problem with this question is: Why is Tau assaulting?! Hehe. But it is something I came across and wasn't sure how to respond when i was asked.

I played it as the whole squad could attack in the assault phase because the rules for assault are not UNIT specific. What ya think?

All the models fight, but you can only target the unit that was the "main" target for your assault.

Meaning a unit of pathfinders(or all carbine firewarriors) with a Team leader W/Hard wired Target Lock?

You fire at One unit with the majority of the squad; and then you can fire at another unit with the team leader. Then you assault the unit the squad fired at because the Target lock specifically states that the bearer may fire at a seperate target from the unit, and the Assault rules state that the Unit must assault the enemy unit targeted by the unit in the shooting phase.

However; if the 2 targeted units are close enough you can Multi-assault both of them.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
Stop looking for buzz words and start reading the whole sentences.

Because Long Fangs fire at 2 Different Units.

Tau Fire at one unit, and then have the option of ONE MODEL shooting at another target.

You have to assault the unit that the UNIT shot at.

The Tau rule says(-the target priority test) that the Target lock alows you to fire at another unit to that targeted by the unit.

Even if all three have Target locks you still have to specify a first target.

Awesome, first target makes sense. So that unit that fired at another unit can still assault the target, yes??

Thanks in advance!

Is it wierd that none of us asked what the heck he is doing by assaulting with Tau?

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

it isn't the majority it is the Primary unit that was targeted.

say you have a unit of battle suits, everyone of them has a Target Lock and everyone fires at a different unit?

you simply choose which unit would be the firing at the Primary target.

no if there was one suit that didn't have a target lock then what he fired at would be the primary target as he has to fire at the same unit the squad is.
