To fire through a unit of the same army?
For example i have a tactical squad positioned behind a terminator sqaud, is it possible for them to fire through the terminator squad?

Yes, the unit that you shoot at though gets a 4+ cover save.

Is there any chance of hitting my own troops? seems like an ineffective tactic to try.

Yes, as long as you have LOS.

No, there is no chance of hitting your own troops.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

Thanks alot. Seems like not the best tactic since mostly ill be shooting at units with a 5 or 6+ save.

Not entirely true. The heavy weapon (Plasma Cannon or Missile firing Frag) in that Tac squad could scatter back onto either squad if the enemy unit being fired at is close enough and scatter distance and direction is just right to come back at them.

There are no rules for hitting dudes in the los. I'm curious is that if shooting through your own guys gives obscure and a cover save or just a straight cover save and I doubt it'll be a 4+ arguable a 5+ probably .

Seems like it would take quite a bit of bad luck for that to happen although if it happens to anyone its prob gonna be me.
Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Well when you start playing with demolishers and pie plates you.. could flatten your own guys if you roll rough on the drift.

The rulebook says 4+;

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

It will be a 4+ cover save given to the target of the shooting passing through your own unit.

Keep in mind though, that you DO need line of sight. If the front unit is physically blocking the back unit, you cannot shoot through them. Or if some units are fully blocked, only those who are not blocked may shoot.

Corollary question, though. If I have two units and the front unit is blocking half of the back unit. Can I declare that only those models that are completely in the clear are firing and thus the enemy does not get a cover save?

Sure the blast might scatter back onto your own troops, it does happen, but normally you wouldnt be close enough to worry about that happening.

Deathwind Launchers. 12" range, 2d6 scatter, large blast.

Yes. You choose which models in the unit are shooting. If all of those models have an unobstructed shot, there is no cover.
