My flgs is hosting a Gladiator style tournament the first week in July. The rules are fairly simple, 2500 pts and you are allowed 1 super heavy or formation. Since my Orks haven't gotten much love lately (aside from the new boar boys sitting on the table, waiting to become 'counts as' boar boy warbikes) I decided it was time for them to get a super heavy. I've never been that attracted to the stompa model and all there are several locals that have tried their hand at variants of the battle fortresses, so I decided to attempt a flyer. The forgeworld fighta bomba is cool enough, but I couldn't pass up on a chance to convert my own. I've always wanted to do something with the Valkyrie kit, but it didn't suit the play style of my guard.
Anyway, stage one was to create the base plane that the orks would loot for their fighta bomba. The general shape of the Valkyrie didn't really suit the concept I wanted for a fighta bomba, so I did some fairly heavy conversion to bring it more in line with the shape of a thunderbolt (more so a thunderbolt/ fighta mix). I happened to have a spare set of valkyrie engines that I had picked up for a conversion idea a few months back. The bulk of the work so far has been narrowing the body of the plane (a major task!), straightening and lengthening the wings and redesigning the tail end. Most of the reconstruction was done with plastic card and a few re-purposed pieces from the kit. It still needs some gap filling, but the chassis is otherwise finished. At that point I was so impressed with myself that I didn't want to orkify it, but just keep it as a Thunderbolt
But, as any good ork player, The greater good got the best of me and I ducked into the bits box to find some pilots and the weapons systems, getting back on track. The original thought was to use an ork and/or grots for the pilots, but I stumbled upon some leftover ork trukk drivers from back in the old days. their smaller scale worked out perfectly for the valkyrie cockpit (after some major shaving of the shoulders).

So far I have the 5 hull mounted big shootas installed. I've still got to figure out a turret mounted twin-linked big shoota and all the bombs. I want to magnetize the super rokkits and burna bombs so I can switch between the two options. Then it's on to a whole lot of orkyification. Still it will be sad to see this thing slowly drop out of imperial service. I'd promise myself that I'll do another one in the future, but who am I kidding, the orks will just loot that one too!

Misery. Missouri. Who can tell the difference.

I like how this is coming along.

I did something similar for my second F/B in my Ork Army. I kept my kit as stock as possible except for the small Orkifications to it. Instead of burna bombs mounted on the wings there is an Ork pushing out 55 gal fuel drums out the back hatch.

It looks a little to clean for orks it needs to have armor plates nailed on and it could use some bullet holes. Just try to make it look like it was throne together from scraps and wreakages. If you do that it will look great!

please P.M. me pics once you fix it up.

I started in on the orkification today. I added the turret-mounted twin-linked big shoota and some piping. I figured any good mek would try to pull every last bit of power out of the engines. I'll probably add in a little bit more in the way of extra plating and glyphs, but the majority of it's orkyness will come from the paint job.

Any thoughts?

I love it.

Sihamoni takes great pride in the league he helped create, as was conveyed in his recent advertising campaign for the CMFL that stated his midgets will "... take on anything; man, beast, or machine."
