Looking at the names of the winners from the prelims got me to thinking.

There were 362 locations for prelims
Which produced approx 1086 winners
and approx 724 alternates (based on 2 alternates per store)
There are 42 locations for semis
which is approx 25.6 winners per semi location

How many players can the average store handle? Are there enough spots available for everyone or is GW banking on the number of folks who will not make it?

You have to assume a certain percentage will be no shows and that areas with larger populations will have larger capacity.

At any rate, I highly doubt people will be turned away do to a lack of space, although i suppose it is possible.

My FLGS currently has 24 participants signed up with room for a few more. I have heard of at least 1 location that capped out at 20.

The store I'm attending can support about 40 people and will probably be filled to capacity. They're probably banking on a lot of people not attending the finals, as awesome as the prospect of a 120-person 'Ard Boyz tournament is. I don't plan on winning the semi-finals, but even if I do place there's no way I'm flying out to Vegas.

The list of winners on the website may not actually be "final", since there's at least one store that did play and did get their results in that isn't on that list, and contends furiously that they called their trade rep on time.

LA Bunker for the West Coast.

Still a long ways for a lot of people to travel, but much, much better than just the one in Chicago.

Wow, I didn't realize there were multiple locations for the finals. I guess that changes things!

I did not realize the multiple locations either.... philly eh? that is a bit closer.... now I have no excuse for not going except my crummy play or exceptional opponents.

The place where my friends went for semis last year turned away 3-4, so it happens. Maybe they've improved the requirements for sizing this year, however.

The list is indeed not final. The store I played at is not posted, and I've called the store for the semi-finals. They called GW and confirmed that I was on the list and "good to go".

Where is this info? If this is correct, then I might actually go to the finals when I make it.

How exactly do you determine an "overall" winner with the finals being played at different locations.

Doesn't make any sense to me.

Where does it say that there are 3 different finals locations? The last I checked, the website only states Chicago.

On a different note, I know several people who qualified that are not going to the semis. Part of it is that at this time of year it is just difficult to free up successive weekends every 4 weeks in a row. Even if I were to qualify tomorrow, I doubt I could make it to Chicago (or the other presumed locations) because of work considerations.

It's more than possible, I had to do it last year. Hit 42 players and that's all we could fit in. Even kicked the RPGers off their tables and out of the private rooms, took those over. They and the few card players still around were sitting in the floor to play.

The local store I play at can hold around 50 players. Alas, I didn't make the 'ard boys this year due to previous engagements. I wish everyone the best of luck though!

The website only mentions Chicago. At least I don't see anything about 3 locations.

On Dakka he was Eldanar. In our area, he was Lee. R.I.P., Lee Guthrie.

The stores were required to prove they could support 20 tables (40 players)

There is only 1 finals location. Whomever is saying otherwise should really stop doing it. False information is worse then no information.

Indeed, I can certainly be dumb enough to drive to Philadelphia if need be.

The store I played at did not report in time, apparently.

GW called yesterday to confirm all was good.

That list is fairly inaccurate, I imagine.
