For Retribution, Heavy jacks, thats all.

All WM factions have a plastic heavy jack kit that makes multiple jacks, other than that though, the supply of plastics is pretty limited.

Rumor has it that Ret's cavalry (Destors) were going to be plastic, but the quality of the first run was so bad Privateer cut off ties to the manufacturer.

I've been unimpressed by PP's plastics in general. They just feel like metal models that have been made out of resin instead. I'm sure the process is more complicated than that, but when you open up the models and have resin with tabs, it doesn't feel like a genuine step forward. Say what you will about GW, but they do great wok with plastics.

I have no complaints about the Troll Fenn Blades. Almost no mold lines, no sprue to trim, and easy assembly. Beats the Fire Warriors and Crisis suits I put together hands down, no questions.

Actually, after moving from 40k to Warmachine, and then picking up Tau after a 7 year break from 40k, I'm very disappointed in general with the quality of the GW minis. :(

i think that was the intent. PP never said they were moving to multi-part plastic kits or disliked their methods of making models, they just changed mediums to cut costs. any PP plastic model will basically be a metal model that just happens to be cast in plastic rather than a big box with sprues and such.

my only complaint about the plastic models is how stubborn the mold lines can be, i am a bit afraid to assemble my heavies because the mold lines wont go away.

My understanding is that there are still sprues with the PP plastics, but they trim them onsite and recycle the sprue plastic for additional models.

But this is my problem. Calling it any kind of progress when all you're doing is changing the weight of the model just seems like a stretch. What preveneted them from including a few extra metal bits in each box to make multiple kits or using the same bodies with different weapons to make different models? Solid chunks of material, be they metal or plastic, are still a bitch to deal with or fix if they're miscast and equally annoying to convert. It just doesn't feel like a marked improvement.

The intent seemed to be cost savings. When you consider the price of
a ten man Fennblades unit vs. the price of a ten man warrior unit, you can see
where they saved money.

The problem with that comparison is that they're two different units. When you look at the heavy's side by side with their plastic kit counterparts, they increased an average of $7 USD in cost. I could buy the arguement that it has to do with the extra bits and better sculpt, but this doesn't really leave an abundance of cost savings (and if it does it doesn't appear to be being passed on to the consumer).

The reason the price comparison doesn't really work is that the models you're comparing to were their loss leaders that had only gone up in price once since the game first came out, regardless of metal cost fluctuations. They were losing money on every one sold, and the point of the plastics was to add a flexible option while bringing the product back towards profitability without increasing costs too much.

If they'd just made a metal omnijack kit, I guarantee you it would have cost more like $50 instead of $35 ($28ish at most places that offer a discount).
