Hey all, I was thinking about starting a chaos SM army, since all my other armies were converted, painted and played quite a few times, and I had a space marine tac squad rotting away, along with some extra cash from my Chinese New year, so I decided to start a Chaos army. I'm thinking of fielding a squad of each god, and one undivided. The undivided I have already converted from my SM tac squad, the Khorne Berzerkers easy enough, and I've found a tut online for making sonic weapons. So that's 3 out of 5 done. Now I've hit a wall. I'll worry bout the plague marines later, since I'm thinking I might scratch that idea (not a big fan of Nurgle anyways!), so my only problem is the thousand sons. I'm thinking that I could get a squad of chaos marines and a squad of berzerkers. That way I could cut the head-dresses off the Khorne heads and stick them as one piece onto the chaos heads, and use the leftovers for noise marines. To simplify:

Khorne=Stock
Undivided=convert SM
thousand sons= Khorne head-dress + Chaos SM
noise marines= Khorne bodies + Chaos SM parts + converted sonic weapons

I'll be posting pics soon. What do you guys think? Anything to Improve?

Too fiddly to cut the raised head dress off the bezerkers.

I did something similar back in 2000 before the new 1Ksons models were released and filed the bar/raised bit on the front of each head piece to make them flat, then filled the gap between them with greenstuff, then another layer greenstuff over the lot for the ridging effect.
Then stuck the whole head on a CSM.

To be honest it was anooying and fiddly and these days I'd just buy the 1ksons kit.

The conversion does sound like a lot of effort. On the other hand, the actual thousand sons models are metal/plastic hybrids, awkward to put together. Why not look online for a place to buy the TS heads seperately? (especially since some of the heads look far better than others IMO) Then just glue them onto normal CSM with bolters. Should be easy, inexpensive, look good.

Yea, but the thing is, 1) I live in Hong Kong, and my/the only one in Hong Kong LGC doesn't sell 1ksons, and I do NOT have a good history with online sellers, so I still don't trust them just yet in starting a new army.

Really? I didn't know that. Which parts are metal and which parts are plastic? But yes, they do sound awkward to put together. The Khorne way just seems easier. Maybe I could try to fill in the space of the Berzerker helms crests instead of cutting them off. Meh, I don't know. I am a better modeller than I am a painter, after all. A LOT better.

P.S.
@Vindicator#9, I couldn't find the heads on that website, maybe a specific link?

I recently built one of the new 1K sons kits, the heads front half of the bodies and 2 unique bolters and arm sets are all metal. the legs, backpacks, back halves, ect. are all plastic. The aspiring sorcerer is an all metal model.

yes it was a very awkward kit, although it wasn't really that difficult to assemble and the models look great.

Sihamoni takes great pride in the league he helped create, as was conveyed in his recent advertising campaign for the CMFL that stated his midgets will "... take on anything; man, beast, or machine."

I'm both orderly and rational. I value control, information, and order. I love structure and hierarchy, and will actively use whatever power or knowledge I have to maintain it. At best, I am lawful and insightful; at worst, I am bureaucratic and tyrannical.

yea, thanks all, but matal minis just aren't my thing, I've made a few plastic+metal sets before, they always end up falling apart! I've thought of just using plasticard or green stuff to fill in the gaps between the rabbit ear things, though the egyptian conversion parts seem cool. Thanks to Winter and Vindicator#9 for the web and links, but I'd like to know if the parts ar metal or resin?

The Scibor miniature parts are cast in resin.
