would my ally get to reroll his wounds on a unit doomed. RAW says wounds against the unit get rerolls but a friend of mine think that is way to overpowered.

RaW actually doesn't support 2v2 games, so you have to make stuff up as you go along.

I normally play that you dont benefit from opponents special rules, as it makes things much simpler all round.

Whatever the person running the tournament wants.
He/She could decide that it does work, it doesn't work, or that banana purple pudding unicorn.

I would suggest powers such as Doom that state all shooting or something would apply to allies. If the power was limited to friendly shooting or wording along those lines then no. So Doom just says shooting but Fortune is limited to targeting an Eldar unit.

Bottom line: clarify it with either the Tourney organizers or for a friendly game with your opponents. Be ready for either interpretation in case they say no. And can I have a slice of that pudding?

The only "hobby" GW is interested in is lining their pockets with your money.

Multi-player team rules are more an Apocalypse thing than regular 40K. Under Apocalypse rules, an army's special rules apply only to that army... your team-mates don't benefit from them.

If you're playing in a tournament using regular 40K rules, it would come down to whatever ally rules the tournament has added to cover the situation.

My usual suggestion is that if the two allied forces are sharing a force org then they also share effects.

If they have separate force orgs then they do not share them.

This is a basic balance issue. If you can have four farseers on your side (just for instance) then sharing the effects would make that much more powerful. If you could only have two between you (like normal) then the effect should be shared or it would be less powerful than normal.

RAW: Doom only says that wounds against the target unit are rerolled, it has no stipulation that it only applies to wounds from Eldar(and then if your ally happened to be Eldar it would still apply) models.

We do alot of team games at my local scene, general consensus has been to read the rules word for word when judging these things.

For example, Doom works for partners, but Divination only works if your partner is eldar.

RAW, there is only one player and force org per side.

RAW has nothing to do with this issue.

the rules don't say that it applies ONLY to the player who is casting the power do they?

the rules book never says you are limited to 1 player per team.

in fact the rule book never defines the word "Player". Player could mean multiple people, if you choose to ignore the common english rules of plurality, but GW ignores many grammatical rules when writing their rules so it's a non-issue.

Let's not get carried away here, hmm?

The standard 40K game is designed for 1 on 1 games, with each player using a single FoC drawn from a single codex. We don't need to go down the silly RAW path of arguing the meaning of the word 'player' to muddy the waters into allowing whatever force you want.

Team games are either using Apocalypse rules, in which case an army's special rules do not apply to team mates, or using house rules, in which case they apply if you and the other players (or whoever is organising the game) agree that this will be the case.
