This "chapter" has always intrigued me. Where the crap did they come from? Why does nobody know who they are?

May the the blessings of His Grace the Emperor tumble down upon you like a golden fog. (Only a VERY select few will get this reference. And it's not from 40k. )

cursed founding, not much cannon on it, just a reference and hints in Sm codex's

"I am the hammer,
i am the right hand of my emperor,
the instrument of his will,
the tip of his spear, the edge of his sword"

Actually there is a great deal of information on the Legion of the Damned, going all the way back to White Dwarf 99 which detailed who they are and why they are the way that they are, the army list from White Dwarf 224 nd several other articles, not forgetting Sergeant Centurius and they are featured in the current Space Marine Codex.

Where ever the Emperor needs his eyes

You're question could easily be answered by going here;

http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Legion_of_the_Damned

or by using the search feature, that is at the top of every forum on the site. Using it would have come up with this,

And I'm sure several other threads about the Lotd. In addition you could always read the Codex they are featured in, which is Codex: Space Marines 5th Edition.

Probably the firehawks, at least that's how current fluff sees it.

I have that WD open in front of me right now.

I don't suppose copyright rules allow me to take a photo and post it...

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.
