So yesterday, I did what the title said. It appears walkers can be locked into close combat for assaults - but it doesn't look like tanks can. Right? Is it just that walkers can be locked in CC with infantry and other walkers?

P.S. I don't recommend doing what I did. I didn't have a deffrolla and it went quite poorly for me.

Tanks are never locked into combat.
Walkers are the vehicle that can be.
States in BRB that vehicles (except walkers) can simply drive off.

Oh god, did I ever. The worst part of it was that the model even HAD a Deffrolla. I just was short on points so went with a reinforced ram instead because it was cheaper. It wound up being the most expensive 15 points saved in my 40k career thus far.

No: only models with a WS can be locked in combat.

It would be important to note, that if you rammed and ended up in base contact with the walker, and if neither vehicle move, in subsequent assault phases the walker may hit the vehicle in CC.

Yet another reason to probably not ever ram walkers, as you put yourself in base contact with a vehicle that will then get 'free' attacks in your assault phase unless you kill it.
