Well, bombing from space, along with from the air, doesn't always win wars. Boots on the ground is what it takes to control area and win. We have been finding that out over and over again the last 10 -20 years. Unless you don't care about the resources or oposing forces on the planet. Then you just call it exterminus and blast it to oblivian. Ever drive any modern armoured vehicle? Doesn't exactly matter where the viewport is. You can't see much of anything through those little slits. We had many an armoured vehicle slide into a ditch or wadi. It's more about knowing the terrain than what you can actually see.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die. |

The Gorgon is unbelievable and the Krieg troops are freaking amazing...I hope they do more specialty troops. Would love to see how they would represent the Volpone.

Just wanted to remind everyone the Warzone WWI style troops are selling cheap at Prince August. http://www.princeaugust.ie/ Even I think the FW guys look better but at 20 euros for 80 (!!) these guys are worth a looks.

Posted By Kid_Kyoto on 09/20/2006 5:29 AM Fantastic model, totally impractical but that's 40k for you. And then there's price... Scratchbuilding one is a possibility there's at least one WWII landing craft model out there to use as a starting point. http://www.acrossthepond.net/WWII%20Landing%20Craft.htm I love how five seconds into this discussion peope are already pulling up alternate models. For the record, I think the Gorgon is terrible, simply terrible. There was a WW2 40K game that was done at Games Day with scratchbuilt landing craft, and they looked better than this. Why couldn't they have made a Medusa or something?.. --Chris

Thank you Drake_Marcus! I didn't see it coming too.. Boooo... As for the vehicle? I love it. I don't care that in reality one grenade could shred most of the men due to the open top, since... it doesn't matter; it can't happen in the rules. Once I got over the fact that frag grenades couldn't HURT anyone in the game, evrything else was just as easy to swollow. I don't care that the driver has a hard time looking out because IT LOOKS FREEKING COOL!  Now I just have to get hired again so I can afford one of these ^__________^;

The Death Korp always strike me as kind of fanatical, so open-topped is probably okay for them. Besides, I don't think not having armour on the top of your troop carrier would be that high on the list of gripes to the brass.
I once played with a guy that converted a Leman Russ and a Chimera with no tracks into a troop carrying sled. That sled o war dragged many good boys to their death, and that is a tragedy.

The Brass would be totally incompetent, failingly to notice the losses being incured toward their men. Or they're continuely faced so much inept opposition their men could be driving Ford Pintos and not not worry about any losses to hostile fire.

The grenade threat can be solved with a mesh over the top. And artillery would pretty much have to land right on it to make a difference, and in that case a roof wouldn't help much. And besides, WWII landing craft REALLY WERE open-topped. How can anyone argue this is unrealistic when it's a real world vehicle put on tank treads?

Point of the roof is to stop shrapnel, splinters from shredding the crew and passengers, especially those from air-bursting munitions and from small arms fire. Normandy, Iwo Jima and other amphibious assaults are a completely kettle of fish, compared to Stalingrad, Berlin, Grozny, and urban assaults.

I love the concept of the Gorgon, but I'm iffy about buying this one. Not because of the cost, which was surprisingly low, but because I built up my own open-topped armored assault carrier, the Ogre, just last weekend. Feel free to check it out at http://www.ageofstrife.com/gallery/Agamemnon207 Of course, if you dislike FW's version, you're going to absolutely hate mine, since it looks even more like a Higgins boat on tracks.

Urban combat of WW2 is also probably a lot different than the WW1ish aspect of 40K Imperial Guard warfare.
In modern times Infantry dismounts in cities anyway. You stay in a vehicle and it is a big armoured coffin.
I need to see a big display board with Gorgons, Baneblades and Death Korp soldiers storming the city walls.

As far as I know, the first tanks were used mainly due to their ability to break through the massive barb-wire lines on the fields. Wouldn't they be even better when the Soldiers were savely in these tanks? And besides, Artillery wasn't nearly as accurate as today. What the Deathkorps want this thing for in 40k...well...I suppose they are just some hardcore Guardsmen who like it rough. Greets Schepp himself

The Gorgon Armoured Assault Transport is very cool. It sort of looks like a WW2 landing craft meets WW1 tank. Dare I say it is 'reasonably' priced? The thing is as large as a Baneblade but less than half the price.

I agree with tanker it is reasonably priced if used correctly. first off remember being open toped also has its advantages first off you can fre back while inside second if you use the apocalypse ogryn auxillerys you can put 25 ogryns in their but the life span for the gorgon is drastically increased if you put some empty chimeras in front of it to give it a cover save

Maybe the threadomancy was so severe it damaged the space time continuum and that it was ACTUALLY you posting from the future talking about a new gorgon model
This thread could all be an illusion conjured by a super powerful threadomancer
