Yup, vehicle is wrecked after everyone gets out, and you can't disembark on top of a vehicle.

And also of note is wrecks are not only difficult, but dangerous terrain, to represent unspent bullets and fires existing in the same space (So no, it's NOT ok to get back on top of it.)

The eye of terror.

The Dakka community is probably one of the best for general rules knowledge on the internet. The fact that almost 1/5 of the dakka community does not know how to play something as simply and straightforward as disembarking from a wrecked vehicle correctly just reinforces my opinion that the 40k player base as a whole simply does not know the rules well enough.

Why did the berzerker cross the road?

My hope is that when they find out that the vast majority do not play it their way, they'll read the posts to find out why, so they then know the rules just a little bit better the next time around.

But then it gets even trickier. What if the vehicle is surrounded or in terrain that blocks the exits.

At a recent tournament the judge stated that if the the exits are blocked (on enclosed vehicle) you may do an emergency disembark and deploy anywhere within two inches of the vehicle. The rulebook supports this. But it then goes to say if they still can't disembark due to troops or terrain that they don't didembark. It doesn't say they die or are destroyed, it simply states they don't disembark. He ruled they just stayed in the wreck until the surrounding troops moved away (which would deny the kill points for the passengers) Page 67 of rulebook

I disagree with his ruling I believe if they can't get out they are destroyed no getting on top no hanging out in a dead vehicle.
my god. good job resurrecting a thread this old ...

It is old, but given the discussion it has generated, I have to say it is one of the better Back from The Dead Threads I've seen in a long time...

So, it gets to live.... for now...

The problem with bringing this thread back from the dead is that the rules in the 5th edition codex are now different and therefore the poll is now based on outdated rules.

As people shouldn't get confused that they are voting based on old rules, I'm going to lock this thread.

And just for the record, the new rules are clear that you have to disembark FIRST and THEN mark the model as a wreck.

yakface's 40K rule #1: Although the rules allow you to use modeling to your advantage, how badly do you need to win your toy soldier games?
yakface's 40K rule #2: Friends don't let friends start a MEQ army.
yakface's 40K rule #3: Codex does not ALWAYS trump the rulebook, so please don't say that!
