I don't remember, does the death jester  have rending or is that just maugun ra? If they do than they just became the best thing since internet porn.

Sorry, but it looks like internet porn remains the uncontested winner.  Only Maugan Ra gets rending.  The Deathjester just gets an Assault Shuricannon with Pinning.  So you get a shuricannon for 10 pts and lose the opportunity to buy a Harlequin's kiss.  Meh.  You only have 24" range, and you're already hanging back for counter-assault.  How many shots are you really doing to get?  And whenever you fleet, you'll be forfeiting your shots.

"The last known instance of common sense happened at a GT. A player tried to use the 'common sense' argument vs. Mauleed to justify his turbo-boosted bikes getting a saving throw vs. Psycannons. The player's resulting psychic death scream erased common sense from the minds of 40k players everywhere. " - Ozymandias

Oh, the reason I asked about the rending was that a 150ish point unit that was almost untargetable at over 20" with (what is essentially) an assault cannon would be pretty sweet. Had that been the case I would have had three identical units and had some termi-esque fun.

But alas, internet porn still rules the roost.

Not that I wholly disagree with you ....BUT....

I think of it like this.  When you hold back an assault based unit for counter assault, you forfiet you entire unit's harelequins kisses close combat weapons, profile, etc....  the very nature goes against unit efficiency, but who disagrees with the value a counter charge unit brings?

Harlequins function as a contingency unit, being where they need to be doing what they need to do.  Sometimes that is jumping into a melee to help their buddies out, sometimes it's fleeting into a quandrant to score, some times it's immobilizing that Rhino before if gets a chance to disembark a Bolter Rapid fire into your expensive fragile units.

It's not a no-brainer for sure.  But trust me, for the bit of added firepower it has given me, I don't miss having 10 Harlequin kisses when I still have 9.

wns,

Tim

no, but one must still make the 2d6X2 roll to see if you can target them with indirect.

Yup...you roll two dice (!) on unseeable targets. So you've got a 1 in 3 chance of hitting the harlies.

I'm not all that scared of harlies with my mech guard. Park a couple of 3 HB russes or a hellhound (or 3) in front of the gunline and dare the space elves to get close, and then there's the bassalisk for dropping pie plates on their heads early on. The chimeras huck out 9 slugs a turn, and with a 6" move before shooting, I can hit the harlies from 15-20" away. If they do get through that, well, I'm used to getting my guard squads minced in combat

cheers

You may not fire indirect at harlies AT ALL unles they're within 2D6X2.

That's a harlie rule.

Are you possibly confusing it with the night fight rules or stealth rules?

Dang, no firing at all? I was assuming that they just had night fight like grey knights do, but appearantly not.
