I have a few things to say here...

First, I've held these three figs in my hand. The pictures do not do justice to the yellow. Some subtle highlights are faded out of the pic.

Second, why do people keep telling that these eldar are "too yellow"? I've never seen anybody say that to Imperial Fist models. And they are all yellow. I bet if migs had painted the eldars helmets blue (and thus making them coming from Iyanden craftworld instead of one of his own making) and nobody would notice anything amiss... (Ok, so I'm a bit exaggerating here but my point stays...). I like the yellow Migs has done here. Yellow's a hard colour to work with.

Third, I do love these figs. They are bright and colourful army, just what Migs said he set out to do, in contrast to his more earthly coloured armies that are his usual trademark. This army will look great in tournaments. I bet you can see these from the other end of the room! I appalaud Migs for always bold new stuff and not just sticking to tried and mastered old ways...

I'm really looking forward what else Migs has in store for us to drool at!

I really like how you've done these eldar. Although the yellow disturbs me still... Too bad the pictures are not that great as the models are in real life. The yellow really "dies" on the computer screen.

OT: got interested of your point on art and stuff. What do you mean by art is art, and everything else is everything else? I see art as a quite broad concept. I think that many things are a form of art. These basic things like paintings and such, but also music. Why not make cooking an art and maybe a gaming style could be art too to my liking. The bottom line here is: What is art?

With questions like that, you will find us monkeys cawling out of the wood work.
I would hate to do that to migs thread, out of respect for his work.

But migs did bring this on himself though inciting thought provoking comments such as that.

To asnwer your question ,it is the product of human creativity.
Unless you want to get metaphysical about it then art is the manifestation of ahtman and the dream of vishnu.

Art is something/anything somebody does and calls (or is called) art. That's why art is art and everything else is everything else

The War-Walkers weathering is great, and the base has a great porcelain effect.

They are growing on me.

Now there's a true compliment. I hope that by the time I have finished these, you'll be a yellow Eldar fanboy :p

...and everyone who's been around since Malfred's whirlwind entrance to dakka loves him!  That and he's beautiful

As usual Migs, lovely, lovely work even if the photography flattens out some of the finer shading and highlighting. Kudos also for going against the grain and using techniques new to you instead of the tried and true. There is art for oneself (which these are) and art for others (commercialy), and when doing the former so long as you enjoy the finished product and the time spent achieving it all else pales.

*sniff* I'd comment on the new pics but it looks like Migs didn't appreciate my last (lengthy) post. *sniff*

Migs,

Awesome stuff.  Just great.

I absolutely love the yellow.  It's stark and grabs your attention.  And the details really keep your eye moving throughout the models.  Especially the war walker.  The cleanliness of the yellow matched with your detail grit really makes it a great piece.

Of course I did Drake! I've grown so used to your constructive and in detail feedback that I forgot to thank you for it. Good post and valid comments. Thanks.

The rest of the army will really build these guys, trust me Coming next is something dark with very little yellow.

I must say, the battle damage and the rune work on the WW is stunning. I especially enjoy the melding of the two on the inset leg picture.

Oooo- good answer   Ok, you have my heart back Migs!

I can't wait to see more.  Any chance we could see the stuff you've done since the last posts?  I only remember seeing a few wood elfs...

How have you done the dark blue armor of the Avengers? Looks too good to be just extreme highlighting, or is it just that? (take that without criticism, please)

Wow, that breastplate on the Exarch is bad-ass! Is that highlighting, or a very glossy gloss?

Thanks guys.

The blue I started by blending some midnight blue in, but then just went for sharper HLs on that. I just varnished them lastnight and it really helped to tone down the effect just right.

The Metal is just highlighting. A very cold, polished shade of gold which I think suits the alien eldar quite well. The shading is too stark, but it really adds definition from further away, so good for gaming models I guess.

Those Avengers look great. Is the Exarch standing on an eldar rune of some sort? That bit kind of looks just primed white. Would like to see some more Exarch shots though.

Yes, it's from one of the new eldar kits. It's painted the same way as the flat eldar stone on the warwalker (where the effect really works IMO) - but you're right, particularily in the pics it looks quite sad.
