I'm guessing that a lot of the sounds and visuals are still temporary. We aren't exactly looking at the final product.... That was what I was saying to myself the second after my initial thought, but I thought I bring it up even though. Especially because Blizzard is ace in voice acting. Greets Schepp himself

Exactly. To see that you'll have to wait. Until the 3rd patch after the release of the expansion. Bitter about WoW, a bit? Unlike a MMPORPG, a RTS should be a finished product when it ships. I've never had a bad Blizzard RTS experience (and even WoW was adequately complete when it shipped to keep any reasonable person busy for a couple months). The patches for SC didn't add content. They were bug-fixes and (more so) balancing tweaks.

As an avid Starcraft player, I have to call BS there janthkin.
While the game hasn't recieved a unit balance update since 1.08, it recieved a huge number of changes in the previous patches. The original game was hideously imbalanced. Zerg absolutely dominated, Terran was god awful, and all Protoss would do is mass templars. Right now, the game balance is basically perfect, and there will likely never be a 'balance' patch ever again. (although there are a few units that see basically no play) At the professional level, balance is determined by the map pool. (although some players complain that Zerg has a 51% win percentage against Toss)
Most Starcraft players are a little miffed about the game though. (even if it is in the pre alpha stage) The game looks, um, too CnCish. Apparently Archons are replaced by 3 legged robots that shoot laser beams, Zerglings come out of giant worms and explode, and there is a supership that you can only build one of. (not to mention that many SC players scoffed at many of the changes in WCIII, like autocasting, heros, and the effective removal of macro)

I haven't played Command and Conquer for years because I didn't really like the feel of the game, so I won't be miffed to see walking guns

As an avid Starcraft player, I have to call BS there janthkin. While you used more words, what part of: The patches for SC didn't add content. They were bug-fixes and (more so) balancing tweaks. didn't cover your sentiment? The game shipped COMPLETE and stable. Balance was constantly modified by subsequent patches; we didn't have to wait for a patch to add sounds/visuals. I remember the early zergling rush, and how spawning pools got more expensive to slow it down. I remember reaver drops, and how the CyCore got more expensive to slow that down a touch. (Mostly, I play, and played, Terran.) Vultures and firebats are still useless; Ultralisks were a truly rare sight. I'm hoping that we see fewer "useless" units, which some very meticulous across-the-board rock-paper-scissors designing might accomplish.

I doubt a game will come along that will replace Supreme Commander in my eyes as the best strategy game, ever. Unfortunately Supreme Commander requires an amazingly good computer to run well in multiplayer, so it hasn't become as widespread as it could've. As for Starcraft 2... I'll be buying it for the campaign. I dislike the new graphic style (all the terran units look plastic and rounded) and I dont't like about half the new units so far, either.
