I've never played any MMO (WoW is for nerds, yo!). Ever. I don't even have a PC capable of this (yet). I am a console gamer. COD4, God of War, Castlevania...crap like that.
But I too paid for the CE. I want the art book, and figure exploring the cities would be a kick.

Someone has broken the NDA.
You can find his post about his unbiased look at warhammer
online (his words) in pcgamer forums, or google.
I think a link would be inappropriate...

I will most likely not be playing this. While I think I would probably enjoy it, I definitely don't have the time to really play an MMORPG, and I couldn't justify spending the monthly fee. I'd rather spend it on my other hobbies, honestly.
While I really like the idea of a MMORPG, my biggest problem is that none of them are really RPG's (and by that I mean, nobody actually role-plays). And I frankly don't see the point in a multiplayer role-playing game where you don't role-play. If I just want hack and slash action (with no monthly fee), I'd much rather play something like Red Orchestra, Team Fortress 2, or StarCraft.

Would you really prefer a game where people roleplayed, though?
Aside from friends, I know the worst internet denizens happen to take their roleplaying ( TM) very seriously. Not only that, but check out one of the WoW roleplaying servers sometime. Tons and tons of people acting out their crushed hopes and dreams of being an athletic superstar because they won't get their fat asses out of their chairs and go for it. "[name] is the best warrior this, he has a mystical past that, etc." Lastly, there's a bunch of loops you'll have to jump through to advance because these serious roleplayers ( TM) tend to organize themselves and make sure you're living out their version of the game you're playing.
And to top it off, you're paying a monthly fee for that. Just sayin'. You should check this out first.

This is based on my experience playing an online text-based RPG, The Eternal City.
It is very well done, with a huge gameworld with a lot of very good players (although the overall playerbase is tiny compared to WoW).
And they don't have lame RP like the stuff in that link.
But I see your point, and concede. A good RP experience like you can get in a game like the Eternal City can probably never be replicated in game as large-scale as WoW. But hey, I can dream, can't I?

WoW has RP servers. In case you cared.
WAR however will not. Why? Because its all about kick'n ass and chew'n .... umm squig guts? Anyways my point is WAR is all about the RvR and having a blast with some good ol'fashion warhammer humour. So WAR is a less erious MMO than WoW. Its like wanting to play a humourous FPS like TF2 over say CS:S.
But thats just my opinion. I don't expect to have a huge amount of time to play it either (making video games kills your social life outside of work, you've been warned ) but for the price of a movie ticket per month, I'd prefer to pop in and enjoy as much of WAR as I could instead of a movie. Thats how I look at it.

DAoC had RP servers. All that meant, though, was that you
could reasonably expect to meet people who wanted to
chat in character.
I don't know if they will have it for WAR? Is this something you read somewhere Strimen?

We're talking RP MMO? I take that pretty seriously.
I played RP DaoC. I liked it because I found it to be generally a more serious group of people playing. No script kiddie nonsense.
I played WoW, and even on PvP servers I am polite, I say hail alot and call people "friend". I was on Shadow Council when it first started, Hani Barrenshunter and Elfripper, the hottest things alive. Made a name for myself spamming Barrens chat with witty RP stuff. I was in an RP guild where they had a story and our own "quests" we did with each other, but it degenerated into people being concerned about their guild 'ranks' which is uninteresting to me. But I met and played with some cool people. This was pre- BC, pre-battlegrounds, after WoW had been around for a while. I actually quit that char ADD style but came back every once in a while to share a pint in Ogri with a couple old chums flashing their l33t l00t.
Since then I have dabbled but found it to be uninteresting. I enjoy RP for the comeraderie and the presumably more intelligent/ mature people to play with. But that demographic seems to be diluted too much. Most RP guilds exist for the epeens of a handful of people who run them, which is fine, but not something I am interested in, obviously.
I will of course be looking for an RP guild to join once WHO starts up . I am also curious about lifecycles of MMOs and how that effects the social culture. Because when WoW was new, that time on Shadow Council when everyone knew the ropes, (it was one of the first servers that was new, a few months later after release) that was when WoW was FUN.

I've also pre-ordered WaR Collectors, two copies from Play, one for me and one for my wife, who is planning to give WaR a go even though she has mild doubts over the ammount of pvp she might have to do.
Been waiting for a decent Warhammer MMO since the original was cancelled, and although I still think Cryptc's game had a heck of a lot of good ideas, this game looks like it has enough to bring me out of WoW.
Well Until the 40K one is done, if it gets done.
