Really I don't think you're going to see that from this competition. It's not an HQ challenge, it's an Infantry challenge. Most people, I expect, will keep to the spirit of the competition. And I would hope that voting will also reflect the same.

Eh, a Zoap would be kinda pushing it. We're really going for anything that fights in groups or squads

So, then, I could do a Chaos Spawn?

MagickalMemories - A spawn would fit the bill. As long as he fits on a 40mm or smaller base we'll take em.

Vero - I hope you do ^_^ This competition serves many functions for the community. As an outlet for all of those great techniques you see people trying. As the 'fire' for others to get back into this side of the hobby. And a chance to just try out something different from the same old stuff you've been painting for years!

I really do hope we get a lot of entries in for the challenge. And don't think just because you don't have a model to use for this one, that you are going to be left out. There will be more challenges down the road! With many different and fun themes.

Does it have to be a GW model? and by infantry, are you just looking for non vehicle / amour value?

I was thinking possibly a MC or a non GW figure... still mounted on a 40mm base.

Also are special characters alllowed? interested in my options

I certainly didn't get the impression that this was supposed to be GW only, so unless someone says otherwise, I'm going to go with no, (although my entry, if I finish one, will likely be a GW model). I would strongly discourage GW models only for a competition like this - While I like GW models as much as the next guy, let's try to broaden our horizons when possible.


In the future would we be able to loosen up the scale restrictions a bit? Just because I'd like to see 15mm allowed, because it'd be nice to see Flames of War (and other 15mm games) get more representation here. I think it would be cool to see some 15mm infantry, but it would especially be good if the category involves armored vehicles and that sort of thing.

Well I'm curious about the rules as they dont specifically state no to MCs, or say large singular models (demon prince, greater demon, etc).

I have a model I am thinking of entering which is larger than a terminator, but not MC stature...

Also, does the first shot have to bare metal/plastic or will a primered model work?


edit: the only reason I am asking is because I want to make sure what ever I come up with, and what everyone else brings, will be inline.

I can PM Grey with what I am thinking of he wants to validate it.

Your model does not have to be a GW mini! In fact, mine isn't!! ^_^

However monstrous creatures wouldn't really fit the bill. The same could go for special characters. Remember, this isn't an HQ competition, it's a Tribute to the Fighting Man. Not the guy who sits up on his high horse directing people where to die ^_-.

You're right on the money Hordini. GW is sort of the ruler by which we're guiding the challenges, it doesn't mean it's the only things allowed ^_^.

As for scale restrictions, the future will most likely hold many less of these. When we will most likely move toward more abstracted ideas. I don't want to give away too much right now, but there will be plenty of chances for other scales to compete. And no one ever said that you couldn't model the hell out of a 25mm base for a FoW piece infantryman

Alrighty then, I was going to do my mini of Warmaster Horus, but that doesnt really seem to fit the bill.

Shame, most of the stuff on my desk right now is an "HQ" type model of some kind, though I wont be using them all as HQ... most are being used as squad leaders.

Might use one of those... or put try putting some of my extras together.

I'll come up with something suitable!

I just read through this thread and I had an idea to share. As an additional prize, maybe someone could create a slightly smaller signature banner that says "Dakka Painting Champion". That could be a fun thing to advertise for the winner.

Just a thought.
