If there isn't IG have no chance, all those guardsnmen taking up so much room they touch the sides, and stealers enter straight into assault, without losing casualties on the way. No way a large basic infantry army can survive this.

And GW want us to use more infantry....

In a long table edge mission, take two cheap sacrificial squads, and line them up along both your DZ side table edges like a wall. Deploy the rest of your army far enough back from those walls so that they can’t be consolidated into, and you should still be able to rapidfire at any stealers that assault & kill your wall units.

It’s going to be trickier in quadrant deployment missions, though.

You guys mentioned screening warriors a few times, but under 5th edition rules screened warriors either can't shoot past the guants and can't be shot which leaves me thinking raveners would be better since they can fleet like the gaunts, giving them an 18" "Sphere of influence" as opposed to the 12" of the warriors. (unless you give warriors wings but that costs more than the raveners anyway), it's more points but between the extra attack and striking before stock space marines in CC it seems worth it to me. Not to mention the WS bonus.

The other option is that you use a model eye view to determine sight to warriors past gaunts, allowing your warriors to shoot as they advance, however, if this is the case then it's entirely legitimate to fire past the gaunts and take down the warriors, easier than in 4th edition even as there is no target priority testing.

Which would you guys assume to be the correct way?

Edit: Forgot about beasts having an extended charge range, which would mean the raveners can strike at 24", also neglected synapse, not sure how I would keep it up with them, probably use a broodlord since I will want feeder tendrils in with my gaunt wave

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

Sorry for the relative threadnomancy, but I've been thinking about this a lot recently.

Feeders willr eally help 'Stealers in 5th. So... is taking feeders on the Broodlord worth it? I usually go with Implant Attack tot ake out ICs/MCs. But re-rolls to hit are probably worth more now that Rending is downgraded, right? What's your opinion?

And I've always held that Lictors works best at complimenting Gaunt squads due(well, after taking out heavy weapons) due to their feeder tendrils/rending. Is this still true? And will they compliment Stealers well too now? Say, two lictors on flanks, DSing to aid Stealers scuttling in on short board edges?

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!

No offense taken.

Anyway, I will still use my Lictors, and they are finally very usefull for their feeder tendrils. Still very costly and if you go strictly by efficiency, I would give stealers some tendrils (but this is debatable whether/how screening is solved in 5th).

I haven't got any problems with ICs with my stealers, therefore I don't use implant attack on the broodlord. Do#t have numbers at hand, though.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Takeing feeder tendrils on the broodlord means you dont need to take them for his retinue.

All the other broods must pay 3pts each, or huddle close to another brood with, however the broodlordsbrood just pays three points.

You dont need implant attack. What the broodlord himself doesnt kill in close combat, the retinue will finish off.

I dont bother tooling up any of my monsters to fight IC's if I have enough stealers. Stealers can kill just about any character.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

feeders are 1pt each for stealers but you must buy one for each member of the brood.

Under the pre print PDF feeders are the no brainer upgrade for all stealers not with a brood lord.

Brood Lord works better for the Acid maw in my opinion. I'd rather reroll the chance to wound rather than worry about my chances to hit.

Except acid maw is much more expensive and only benefits the lord. Those re-rolls to hit are for the broodlord, the retinue as well as any units within 2" of the broodlord (like say some gaunts, rending warriors, etc).
