This is correct; it was much more scenario driven.

There was also something great in second edition about a Chaos Lord of Khorne in Khornate Terminator armor with different field saves.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

IMHO 4th edition is the best version of the game so far, in that it is the easiest and funnest to play with fewer rules arguments than ever before.

Could not have said it better myself YAK. all the points you hit were spot on.

I started buying GW stuff on the tail end of RT but never played. Wiht my housemates we hammered out a 40k RPG using RT rules and it was fun.

I started playing with 2nd edition and hated it. HATED IT. The models were poo too. And then I went to Japan.

When I got back from Japan the models were good again, 3rd edition was out I got seriously into the game and modeling in general.

Then in 2004 I went to Guyana.

When I came back in 2006 4th edition was out, my rhinos were useless, and I found that while I love painting and modeling I don't have the patience for the game. I played with some friends but never even bothered with pick up games in my area.

Now I'm in China, the plastic models are better than ever, I can't for the life of me understand why codexi are formated so half the useful infomration is on one page and half on the other.

So I have a soft spot for 3.5 edition, say from the Battle of Armageddon until Witchhunters came out. Which is more or less the only time I was playing a lot. But a lot of that was there were new army lists almost every month, tons of product coming out, lots of experimentation with the Citidel Journal and in WD and online. Lively discussion here and in other forums. Products were easy to buy on line, good times.

Sounds to me like I started just at the right time. My first game was in the wee hours of the fourth edition. Though since that year, whatever one it was I personally think we have to many, I haven't played much anymore. Well I've gotten serious again and hopefully 5th edition will be even better.

I like 4th edition the best as they tightened the rules up considerably from 3rd edition.

I always have a fondness for 1st edition. Each month, you never knew what new unit/army GW was going to come out with. Everything was fresh and pretty exciting. However, game balance was flat out horrible.

4th Edition has provided me the smoothest running games in which I can set my army down against nearly anyone and we can play a game w/o much difficulty in rule disputes. Many fun games have been had with 4th edition. The quality of minis available now in 4th edition are fantastic and fun to build and paint.

Hoping 5th edition will improve upon what 4th provides.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.
