Did I miss something or are you being obtuse. The header of this post is..

Will you use the Adepticon FAQ ?

Not

Will you go to a tournament , or other gathering of
like minded people , that uses the Adepticon FAQ ?

My answer is no and I have given my reason for it. It's not up for debate. Yak your bias is showing.

Sincity:

I can , without a doubt , be sure that this FAQ will cause me to have AT LEAST one bad game in the near future. GWs rules are bad enough without the murkyness this FAQ will cause.

Unless GW adopts this FAQ , this is not helpful.

Sincity

Speaking of helpful, have you got a FAQ that clarfies any RAW/RAI issues at hand? Do you have a document that clearly resolves any issues-cross-referenced with every other piece of GW rules?

I am sure it will not be the FAQ that makes your games bad.................
My answer is no and I have given my reason for it. It's not up for debate. Yak your bias is showing.

Yak's only bias is allowing Nay-sayers infer he is not being even handed in his FAQ, and thus allowing free speech. I could see no bias in any of his posts.

100's of hours play-testing, looking for abusable 'loop holes', and clarifying RAW/RAI issues.
Good on you Yak, I thought it waqs a brilliantly collated piece of work. I wish I had the enthusiasm/time to do the kind of research that document required.

How 'Democrat' of me.?!?!? Errrrr, 'Democratic'?!?!?

And yes, otherwise your opinion is just gently blowing breeze. Or at least start a thread with the problems as you see them, and explain why.

This is a Forum for rules discussions, news and rumors and such. Not a political organisation, so the 'Democracy' call makes as much sense as

Is it Dakka rules that you can only respond to a post if you agree with the Dakka royalty ?

Look , I've said it twice , Good work on this project!! I'll mail you a cookie if it will make your little brown-noses happy.. But I still will not be using this FAQ.

Guys, before we get too nasty to people with seemingly bizarre disagreements with the FAQ, let's not forget that there are a lot of folks (myself often one of them) who simply resent and assume the worst of any movement to change behavior or in any way regulate action.

Adepticon is certainly not telling everybody that their FAQ is canon, but the support has gotten pretty high, and given the lack of GW FAQ's, there's a decent chance that this FAQ will be picked up by Tournament organizers, league captains, etc. It is being held out for public use.

In the US, you can't listen to any AM Talk Radio for too long without hearing somebody convinced that some peice of regulation or another is the cause of misery. I don't want to cast all of those that disagree with the FAQ as right wing nut jobs, but the question being raised here is simple: will you use the FAQ? The answer for some of us is "of course, it's a well thought out and reasoned list of errata." Some of us, however, see it as an attempt to take the game away from what they view it as: a contract between two players to have a good time. Clearly in the context of a huge, hundreds strong tournament it helps to clarify a few terms, but many of these issues don't come up in friendly play, and if they do, are quickly resolved by somebody simply not caring too much.

While I support and will use the Adepticon FAQ, I don't have any ill will to those that don't, and I think we should listen to good reasoning, and learn to ignore zeal and rhetoric.

Sincity: Any reason you're so aggressively against this FAQ? You act like you feel threatened by it, and even said that the rules changes "invalidate it". Is it suddenly not valid for Adepticon now? If you meant "invalidates it for general use", that's another thing entirely, but what you're saying is that it's absolute rubbish and should never be used anywhere by anyone.

You said that Yak's bias is showing; I would certainly hope so. Every human being has a bias, and it's nearly impossible to completely hide. For example, I have a bias against what I consider to be unnecessarily hostile posters, so I'm responding to you. It takes a great deal of work to keep bias out of anything, and this certainly does not warrant the effort.

Also, Akira, you weren't out of line. Sincity was bringing American politics (using Democrat as an epithet) into things, he just forgot to capitalize it. His mistake (that, and he assumed that everyone else would take "Democrat" as an insult, another example of bias).

In my post starting this thread, I hoped people would not turn it into another argument about the FAQ.

I am not interested in why people want to use or not use the FAQ. We are all capable of reviewing the pros and cons and coming to our own decision. I feel that if a majority of people will use it, that validates it.

The poll shows the majority of people are going to use the FAQ. It's not a good sample, but it may be indicative.

Should the thread be locked now? We can always start another argument or continue with "Adepticon FAQ Reviled".

Yes this is true. Unfortunatly you did not read the forum rules properly as this is an unwritten rule. If you dont agree with it you can go rogue and join my sub sect, but unfortunatly you will not have much support from the rest of the community.

Iorek: Is " no I will not use this FAQ" all that aggressive ? After all thats the question posed.

I do think that that the rules changes "invalidate it" for the perposes of this question. Yes

Are you also involved in the creating of this FAQ ? Or what ?

I have lauded the fabricators of this unique take on an actual for profit and IP protected work. If GW feels the same and makes it cannon THEN it will be a valad work worthy of our use. Until then... phhitt.

Now , heres why I think any FAQ should be done by GW or there agents.

Sincity posted:"How democrat of you."

Then akira5665 posted: "How 'Democrat' of me.?!?!? Errrrr, 'Democratic'?!?!?"

akira5665 assumed a change that was WRONG , then gos on to use a lame cover about it not having a capital "D'. Democrat was not used as a proper noun so it need not be capitalized. Now , granted , it was not a properly structured sentance but it would not have been with his/her "correction" eather. So thats a wash.

Akira5665s FAQ on my post was incorrect.

Now as a last though , because of my opinioned answer to this post I have had harsh responses from 1.) A DCM 2.) A Mod and 3.) The Owner.

Like I care.

It's not your opinion that elicited the responses; Killkrazy is also against the FAQ, but he's been calm and reasonable in his posts. You have not. That's why you've drawn criticism.

If you can't see why your posts are different than the others, what the tone of your posts are, then expect to have posters continue to criticize your posts.

Dont want to sound like im chiming in with the choir to jump on your head for a different opinion, so please take my post separate from the barrage of other comments.

But....

You do realise that some of these "compleatly" new rules that they've added are things like DAB/BA/Chaos being able to charge after shooting pistols, where RAW they cannot if they are carrying bolters. Or Termies wearing termy armour etc.

The rules changes that are there are by and large excellent.

Having said that they are unofficial, and cant be forced on anyone. But i do believe they are an excellent gaming guideline.

My group has already adopted them as canon.

I hope we can have more constructive discussions later sincity. I will apologise again for any rudeness i exhibited.

As a matter of fact I am for the FAQ. Perhaps I have been leaning so far backwards in my attempts not to exhibit bias that I have fallen over.

My position is this:

The rules need a solid FAQ.
GW can't or won't issue one.
The Adepticon FAQ is very well done.
I don't care if it's not official. What I care is that it answers all the questions.
A "fan" FAQ is valid for any players who decide to use it.

If I play someone who doesn't want to use the FAQ, I'll try to cover the major issues (magic cylinder, etc.) in advance and D6 everything else.

Under the couch

That's the real core of it: An FAQ is as valid as the players want it to be.

It's impossible to play 40K as the rules currently stand without house rules (unless someone can point me to, for example, the rules allowing squads to use the Leadership of their leading character...)

This FAQ simply introduces house rules in a convenient bundle, for those who want them. For those people, it's as valid as any 'official' rules.
