Compromise is the essence of strategy - complaining that you don't like the compromises involved in playing at 1750 points is basically like complaining that the basket-ball net is too high in professional games. It's called a challenge, that's something you work with, not whine about.

Sounds like you're whining about other people whining.

I'd argue about what the essence of strategy is, but I'd really rather not.

I don't think others making my choices for me is really any essential of strategy...that's what usually happens after I've decided my strategy and they've countered.

Now if you think my strategy is to buy extra models so GW can counter by making them superfluous...then you're on a whole nother plane of existence, buddy.

Aw, mean old GW is making your models superfluous. Poor baby. Don't worry, I know how terrible it is when GW kicks down your down and steals back those models you bought from them so you can no longer use them in your Webhammer army lists. Just the other day I had this perfect strategy: 3000 points of all the troops I wanted to take, and the dashed tournament organizers tried to make half of them superfluous just because they were small-minded enough to limit armies to 1500. If only they hadn't made half of my army superfluous I could have dazzled them with my strategic perspicuity! They didn't understand that I'd already decided on my strategy, but then the petty don't understand greatness, no? They never account for genius...

'but I can't move my 200 model army in 2 hours and...er never mind

I don't do GTs, but occasionally an RT and am applying this to regular gaming.

I prefer 1850 - 2000 for both tournaments and regular play. 1500 - 1750 never feels right to me (as a non-marine player). Inversely I also like a nice 1,000 point number for non-tourney quick games. I seem to be able to build dcent non-marine lists at this level as well.
