I've considered changing my marines from ultramarines to something else. However, with the new Blood Angels and Dark Angels rules, I'm not sure what options are still viable. If the Marines codex ends up looking anything like the Blood Angels rules, I may just stick with my guard.

"Sir, the enemy has us encircled!"

"Most excellent. They can't escape us now!"

This whole thread reminds me of how much I hate Cadian IG, Black Legion, the T'au sept world, Hive Fleet Behemoth and Goff orks.

Because they are all used generically by GW to portray the army as a whole. What a bunch of sellouts.

Lol, well that may be true, but why would we expect GW of all people to create viable models for their armies when they can get away with only a couple decent lines and the rest are all uber expensive. (ever tried to create an apocalypse worthy Death Korps of Kreig? Its no bloody cheap....)

Forever alone

Ultras always seemed too goody twoshoes for me. Chaos are much better, they're allowed to do bad things that Ultras can't.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

right behind you...

The streyotype thing, the whole genericness of them, GW's over-hyping I all hate. Then the backstory doesnt really help them either. I mean can you imagine the conversation when the Ultras showed up after the seige of Terra?

Guilliman walks up wit whis legion (all of it, in mostly shiny armoyur, they all seem happy and well rested)
Dorn: Where the Flying F**k were you?!?!?!!!!!!!
Guilliman: we were uh, tied up... SO yea, I know some of us lost it and went to chaos, but Sandguinus?
Kahn: No, he got f**king KILLED, dumbass.
Corax: yea, and some of us got cut to gak over at Istvan V to, where the hell where you when that one went down, BROTHER???
Guilliman: Uh, yea, erm, Horus kept me busy for a reeeaaaaaal long time, somewhere.
Russ: And where was that??
Guilliman: not really sure, we were mostly, umm, mired in the warp...
El'Johnson: doing what, one massive circle-jerk????
Guilliman: well, there was a space battle, a big one... Say Corax, wheres the rest of your legion?
Corax: THis is all thats LEFT, dumbf**k, all the rest is DEAD!! if you knew the gak I did to try and get my legion back to full strength...

or something like that, thoughts on that random thought?

Peace is a lie. There is only passion.
Through passion I gain strength.
Through strength I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory my chains are broken.

i have never been a fan of the Ultramaarines but the fluff made them sound kinda cool, sure they missed the siege of terra but they took over most of the fighting afterwards while the other marines rebuilt. I mean if it weren't for the ultramarines being at basically full strength the Imperium would have fallen.

I have never used the 'base army' and neither has anyone i know. One of them does Foe Crushers IG, I do word bearers, someone else does DeffSkullz orks and i used to use my own Tyranids (Hive fleet hoppo! Ruler of 500pt games)

The ultra-meatshields are overpromoted and generic and blue.
Not a good combi to stand a chance in the 40k players choice olympics.

I didn't care of ultras as owner of a few SM,because it was to cemented how they look.

never forfeit the chance to make your own chapter for pansiemarines!

I know,GW must decide to give one example and the ultras got the job.Bad for them, good for every other chapter.

Honestly, I've been playing since 40K2 came out and I've never played/played against Ultramarines. I've played against dozens of different SM armies, but most of the 'Vanilla' ones were trying to be their own colour scheme successor chapter and so were more interesting.

Having said that, I really like the Greco-Roman Iconography that GW has put on the Ultras last 2 editions.

I remeber when 40K2 came out, everyone had Blood Angels for a while as they were what was in the box materials (Armageddon training scenarios, BA vs Goffs)

So get it easy... wait a second.. oh yeah 1st company, Macragge Polar Fortress... now what did you say again?

are one of the most resilient chapters out there. Yes Guilliman (sp?) didn't do alot of fighting during the HH but what are you gonna do? They were mired down by the warp! As soon as you can help them fix that then I will listen to you without complaining.

get the worst stuff because they know they have one of the best tactically proficient chapters around. Yes they can be easily predicted but at least they don't go running off screaming (Death Company), go and find the nearest bar and drink themselves to the Astartes limit (guess who), or try to clone themselves and make raging mutant monsters (if you can't guess this then you shouldn't be reading this) they at least know when restraint is needed and when sacrifical courage is the only way out.

Now go lay down.

Tabletop quality Orks for Sale. Plenty of converted vehicles. Moving and don't want. PM for details.

Haha, such a silly thread. I was surprised to see it again.

The remind me not to take this game too seriously. Their ret-conned fluff is impossible to follow, and so soaked with propaganda that there's no real way to tell what fictional fact is fact or fiction.

The are not "good" in a 21st century sense of the word, either. That's what makes them fun. I justify fighting anybody!

My only beef with the Ultramarines is that their legion is only 1,000 strong. If that's the case, I've totally killed 'em six or seven times over by now. I mean, the "math" of the Codex Astartes still baffles me. For a group as powerful as the , I'd expect they'd have at least opted to tack on a couple reserve companies, or make two or three Astartes Chapters their official bitches. Or maybe they have, and GW's just left that up to our imagination?

I consider my group to be a 10th Company Strike Force, wherein the scouts are all trying on their power armor and getting to learn how it works. That's my only explanation for why I have such a high turn-over.

Ultra Marines = Administrators of the Adeptus Astartes

Sure, they are space marines when it comes down to it, and as such must kick butt. But compared to other chapters, they are lacking in most respects. Their fluff is boring, their rules are boring, their models are boring, their persona is boring. They are just plain boring.

"Ooo Ooo, but we're cool cause we make all kinds of rules and tell everybody to follow our rules! OMG were THE BEST!!1!!!11!"

Or not.

The thing I hated most was their paint scheme, but thankfully that was fixed. They look MUCH better now in my opinion.

In any case Im sick of GW shoving their poster boys down our throats.
