That's a really cool idea that I haven't heard before. A Dark Age of Technology (or Pre-DAT) game does have the potential to be really cool, because GW could take it in a totally different direction than 40k. There's definitely a lot of creative possibilities. Unfortunately I doubt GW would risk such a venture, unless they did it as some sort of limited Specialist Games type release.

I can't remember from the fluff, but the whole men of stone versus the men of iron took place after the DAT, and is what started the Age of Strife, correct?

The DAT would be a good setting for a "harder" SF set in the 40k universe. Say, something like an early first contact with tyranids/stealers, a la Aliens
