So the foam in the box is a different size than the foam trays in the Sabol cases?
If so, that is a little dissappointing. I was thinking I might get a few of these boxes for storing miniatures I don't use much and don't care to display, and just swapping foam when I change armies. If that isn't an option though, there probably isn't much point to getting them as opposed to getting the normal foam trays and storing them in a chest of drawers or something.

As to cardboard boxes, getting ones that have a little lid like this and that are made from solid cardboard is actually a little tricky. It is cheap when you are getting them by the pallet, but in reasonable amounts are a bit salty. Most cardboard boxes used in say Wal Mart or a grocery store are not terribly durable since the packaging of the contents are designed to take a lot of the weight of stacking, and generally are too large to be convenient to move.

However, the packaging for computer parts is often sturdy and has lid functionality, so if you have a decent source of that, you are golden.

Excellent.

Thanks for the pics.

It would seem that the foam square count is 22 wide x 17 high.

Assuming that the average Space Marine would take up 2 x 3 squares, it would seem then that each box would comfortably hold 33 standard 28mm miniatures. With careful planning, you can make 28 2x3 slots, 4 2x4 slots, and one 2x5 slot (or 2 2x2 slots).

It also seems that the average Ral Partha/IronWind Metals Battlemech takes up about 2 x 4 squares. I think with a bit of careful planning, you can fit 27 'mechs (more than two companies worth).

Not bad for $11.

Thanks again for the excellent review.
