It's nice when they have picture though.

That said, it doesn't make up for dull writing, and kind of ruins it if the models and scenery aren't painted

I think hormagaunts would have done well in this matchup, as they can easily get to the boyz without being shoota'ed to death, and have so many attacks that they will force a TON of 6+ saves, yeah the boyz will out number them, but they will be striking first and killing lots. Hormagaunts also have the ability to get in though the Shoota killing field without allowing a shot on them.

I know hormagaunts arn't as popular as spinegaunts due to cost, or stealers, due to fighting ability, but it seems like this match-up is one place where they would really shine.

Meh, personal opinion I guess. I read reports for the tactics, less for how flamboyant the writing or the painting of the models. I mean sure the thing's prettier with painted models, but I'm a busy guy and don't get mine done in any appreciable time, so I can respect when others, too, have busy schedules.
