I like it. It has its problems of course, and some things always come out to be a matter of interpretation which can make for some weird options issues. However other than that its a great tool and I wholeheartedly enjoy using it.

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts. |

The benefits of AB far outweigh the problems and I highly recomend it to EVERYONE. It makes list building easy. It makes tinkering with lists and changing options even easier. Plus the ability to make a list & know that you haven't screwed up the maths is priceless. I've found excel to be more cumbersome than PNP.
I've been using AB3 since March 2006. I've had some minor problems with the licencing (due to system crashes and the like). However, I must say that in more than two years the problems have been very minor.
The main issue is around having to wait 120 days to transfer to a new "system". You can uninstall, install & activate as much as you like until you change the system (I have successfully reinstalled my OS and had no problem with reactivation). But then AB gives you TWO licences to get around that problem.
I don't particularly like the licencing system (I'm not going to pay for years worth of "updates" when they're not updating the program). At the moment the anual fee only gives you the ability to download and install the data files (which are written by volunteers) from inside the program. You can go to AB40k maintianers and download the files manually.
Now if you're going to be stopped from using AB because of these minor issues .... it's your loss. Please don't try to convince us that AB is useless, no good or not worth it.

Unfortunately, because that's the only way to get updates for the new armies. AB2 is no longer supported.
I mean, if you can create your own files for AB2, then great. That's awesome for you (and, please send all the new ones to me ).
Unfortunately, though many (or most) of us can't. So, the only way to get the newest army files is to have the only program they are available for.

I like AB. I think most of the complaints really stem from their really awful policies about people paying for the product. I find the license system annoying, as it basically assumes that everybody is trying to steal AB3. Since everybody did actually steal AB2, I guess I see their point.

I have been using AB for a while and I must say I've had no problems with v3. I've had 2 pc's crash since I bought it (I purchased my liscence over the net) and it's taken me all of 5 minutes to get it back up and running.
I think it's great for tweaking lists and the printouts are easy to read.

And so, due to rising costs of maintaining the Golden Throne, the Emperor's finest accountants spoke to the Demigurg. A deal was forged in blood and extensive paperwork for a sub-prime mortgage with a 5/1 ARM on the Imperial Palace. And lo, in the following years the housing market did tumble and the rate skyrocketed leaving the Emperor's coffers bare. A dark time has begun for the Imperium, the tithes can not keep up with the balloon payments and the Imperial Palace and its contents, including the Golden Throne, have fallen into foreclosure. With an impending auction on the horizon mankind holds its breath as it waits to see who will gain possession of the corpse-god and thus, the fate of humanity...... |
