I use Krylon unless I need black, which for some reason no-one around here sells (they sell white and grey, but not black...), so then I use GW. That said, as soon as I can hit the local college bookstore, I'm picking up some Gesso for hand-priming, since that will be even lower odour and let me work on figs in the winter.

I use duplicolor or whatever auto-primer my local auto-parts store gets in. It's cheaper than the GW stuff (and the auto-parts place is just around the corner, as opposed to a 10 minute drive). I know some people who use the rustproofing prmers on metal figures - as it resists (to a small extent) the usual 'non-toxic' paint stripping methods, as well (so if they make a mistake in painting, they can strip back to the primer, rinse and then redo it.).

Primers have a different chemical formula to regular paint. There are different solvents that help it bond to a surface, and to allow paint to better bond to it. None of the GW sprays (here) in the last 10 years have been anything like a primer, as a result, I try no to use them.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...
