***Yes I liked Cloverfield for what it was, a modest budget horror movie that was produced better than its budget.
***And yes Transformers is all about BOOM BOOM (Ryan) and explosions. And Optimus kicking butt old school.
***I think what annoyed me about Dark Knight was that a reviewer I like said it was better than Silence of the Lambs and Seven. My expectations were extremely high and it annoyed me the movie wasn't up to that. Acting was great. Many scenes were great. Mayhaps it got too twisty to me or unbelievable (chase and Dent/chick after-er yea the guy who doesn't plan got that convoluted...) The hospital boom was really cool and a perfect moment however.
I haven't seen Mama Mia, but I'd guess it's closer to standard Western musical, the kind that used to be made.
I haven't read a lot of comic books either, amd haven't really liked a lot of what I've read. But Watchmen was really, really good.
Best comic book to movie is American Splendor, by the way. Then probably Ghost World. Iron Man or Dark Knight for third place, depending on your preference.
The hype for the Dark Knight was ridiculous, sure. At the end of the day it, like most other movies, had its strengths and its weaknesses.
And the Joker's plots were ridiculously complex, but I just put that down to being his superpower. It wasn't planning he disliked, it was goals and ambitions. If you look at his own plans, they switched from scene to scene. First he was robbing a bank to piss off the mobsters, then he wanted Batman dead, then he thought it was more fun to play with Batman. Compare him to the mobsters, Batman, Gordon or Dent, all of whom were essentially after the same thing at the start of the movie and the end.

Replace "Communism" with "Terrorism" and you have the same thing. Instead of fear of a nuclear fallout at any time its a terrorist attack that could happen at any time, any place. CONSTANT VIGILANCE!
And no, you wouldnt know these heroes if you hadnt read Watchmen. But that doesnt make them not good.

You can swap them out and keep the plot pretty much the same, but you have to understand that themes and ideas will change. The assumption of the inevitability of armageddon made by the comic book just can’t be replicated with terrorism. The plans in the comic book make a twisted kind of sense if you're talking about the end of everything, but don't really make a lot of sense if you're talking about terrorism.
You can probably still make a very good movie, but you have to be aware of the differences. Whether or not Snyder and his team know how to make the necessary changes, or if they even try, is something we’ll find out down the track.

As movies go, I tend to classify the comic book movies as popcorn. Those are the movies I go to when I want to shut down my brain and just be entertained for a little while. Even with that attitude, I sometimes get disappointed (Ghost Rider, Transformers).
I was expecting a lot from V for Vendetta, but I was very disappointed. The whole story of Evie from the book was completely dumbed down and became a pointless storyline - and it should have been the most poignant storyline, showing her transformation.
As such, I'm weary about Watchmen. The comic was very good, and yes, I think it still has relevance. Only now it's more the crusader attitude that would be the main focal point, not so much the end of the world fear as it was during the Cold War.

I don't mind movies based on comic books, I mind when good comic books are turned into bad movies. V for Vendetta and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen are good examples (and both by Alan Moore- odd).
Keeping with the Moore theme, I suspect that the upcoming Watchmen will suffer (a story about aging, fattening impotent vigilante/supermen cast with young hot actors/actresses- right) from the typical Hollywood treatment. The Spirit (absolutely amazing- go read a few, or anything by Will Eisner) will be turned into a pale imitation of Sin City. Oddly enough I liked Sin City as a movie since imo most of Frank Miller's work is fairly mindless anyway but looks cool. Let's not start on the last Superman film or the first Hulk.
Having said this, The Dark Knight was better than most Batman comics I've ever read. Hell, it was even better than Miller's Batman. And Miller's line about Batman Begins ripping him off seemed to be out of jealousy- his Batman Year One was worthless if not for the art of David Mazzuchelli.
In the end, I'm tired of bad comic movies, not comic movies outright.
End rant.

Sweet! They haven't had a good Western in space for a while and as long as the soundtrack's good and laden with jazz, Cowboy Bebop should be fun.
Also I like how they started strong in the Comic Con pics but it went downhill from there...starting on page 5. Then salvaged it with the tomb raider chick.

Hey, Heath Ledger made DK worth buying a ticket. I really enjoyed his take on the Joker. Gotta admit, I'm going to be VERY cautious when someone wants to show me a "disappearing pencil" trick.
BUT, you have to admit, the acting quality for comic movies has gotten ALOT better over the years. Ever see the original Spider-Man movie? How about the "Capitan America" movie? *shutter*
I jazzed with what is to come. They have Thor and Cap. America movies in the works but we also know they are building up for a Avengers movie. Now with all of the "origins" taken care of, they just need something on the level for a need of the combined efforts of Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and Cap. Now seeing all four of them in one movie would be sweet!
AND, just saw the trailer for the Wolverine: Origins. That one is going to have TONS of action.
But, you can see that Hollywood is running out of ideas. Also, on the Anime front, I remember reading something about a Akira live action movie w/ Matt Damon attached to it. I hope to Gods he/they don't. He just needs to stick with the Borne movies.
With me being a fan of comics, I can't say that I am or will be tired of comic movies. Just hope the quality keeps getting better.

I remember hearing that Reynolds was approached about playing Deadpool a couple times and kept turning the offer down, but finally caved. I'm so damn happy they cast him as 'Pool, can't think of too many other actors who I'd want playing my favorite merc with a mouth. Helps that Reynolds is one of my favorite actors too. Gotta check that trailer out later, curse you work! - Salvage

Wolverine preview was fantastic, if impressively un-centered
On IMDB checking out Ron Perlman, found this nugget:
