Good. I don't know how/when it will be possible to play on Friday. I have a friendly game setup for friday night with goatboy's demons, but I'm not sure how I could get another game in. The doubles ends at 8pm and open gaming closes at 10pm.

I know after 10pm we'll be going to sleep anyway. lol

I think Saturday is more likely, or perhaps Sunday. One of those days (I'm thinking Sunday but for whatever reason there seems to be very little to do that weekend) we're going to see a show.

Thursday I think we'll be going to some ESPN place to watch opening season of the NFL kick off. No idea where that is though.

I'd put in my bathroom itinerary too but I just don't know yet.

Stelek - I may have missed something but what do mean when you talk about 'not compromising' and 'not sucking up to players'?

Assuming you are telling the truth about your regular tournament victories, a lack of trophies can only be explained by low sportsmanship and hobby scores, which are not hard to get.

Or are you implying some sort of conspiracy by a clique of players who don't like you?

Neither will I be one of the dozen cheats who've "won" a GT with a pro painted army. Yes, they really do exist and no I will not name names. They know who they are. So does GW. It only took a DECADE for them to change the rules so propainted armies cannot win the main prize. "Best Hobbyist", I don't think so.

I can afford pro painted armies (and it seems, I will have to but I won't lie about it). I just bring my own stuff along. If you honestly believe GW's volunteer staff gives out fair painting scores, why do the same armies get different scores at different events? Why do unpainted armies get the same scores as painted armies?

I could go on but why, either you know this or you don't.

I simply choose not to compromise my ethics or morals to win in a broken tournament system.

I will instead do my best to change it so it is a competitive tournament system and it's FAIR.

It is doable, you know.

So, there's two parts to this, then.

One is hobby scores. The system in the US may well be different to the UK system. Over here there are a set of check-boxes for meeting hobby requirements.
If you meet all the criteria, you get maximum hobby scores, irrespective of the quality of your paint job (It needs to be neat and tidy with a requisite amount of detail, but that's all).
Past this, only entries for 'best army' are judged any more harshly (and here is where you need to specify whether you painted stuff yourself or not).

You're absolutely right in saying that people with pro-painted armies do not deserve any extra credit, but this ought not to matter for overall scores.


The second point is sportsmanship. You make a big point of how you don't '...hold his hand, give him gifts, take him out on a date after...'. Well I didn't realise this was part of the deal.
Are you polite and considerate? If you smash a unit aside do you let it go without comment, jump around going whoop, or point out to your opponent in exacting detail what he did wrong? If the last two then I'd mark you down, too.
Do you shake hands, wish your opponent luck before a game, congratulate them after if they win or commiserate if they lose?

If this is what you're doing then you should be getting good sportsmanship scores (and if you don't you have a legitimate greivance to take to the organisers).
If you're not doing this then why not? Always keep in mind that we're grown men playing with toy soldiers and if it means more than that to you then, for my money, you're in the wrong hobby.

1) Hobby scores. I've played in the Heats in the UK, they are simple enough but here in the US it's just not doable for whatever reason.

2) Sportsmanship.

The organizers last year were watching me after my first opponent complained that I was being a dill weed or cheesey or whatever. Meaningless bull. He got tabled in 20 minutes and it's me being an ass about it? Sorry, your army sucks...so please, give me a zero on my sportsmanship for rolling dice and beating you. Yep, real mature for a 55 year old guy.

Then after watching my last games, they realized it was more typical US bull and didn't even have the balls to apologize to me for it. It's not like I noticed but others did, I was running on very little sleep (and little did I know, seriously ill at the time).

Though they did have the gall to tell me I was being considered for removal for...doing nothing. Years and years ago, it was 'you are overreacting' making me a jerk. Now it's 'you gotta show SOME emotion' or else I'm a jerk. Funny how it's always me, no matter what I do to make the GW staffers happy. Maybe I should change tacts, and run a incredibly poor army so I can give my opponents a "good game" and make them not feel so bad when they lose because it took 2 hours to lose instead of 30 minutes. Oh right, that IS what I'm doing.

It's my problem--I don't react (the guys at my FLGS realize it's just the way I am and don't mind it as much as they used to), and unlike friendly games where I tell people what they did, I don't tell tournament players how they suck or why unless they actually ask me.

Most of the guys I play are big babies and are gone by the time I look up from putting my own army away.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement, but back when I was scoring painting...I always gave max scores (didn't care) and I currently give max sportsmanship scores (didn't care) and never marked anyone down for anything but cheating...which I'd write elsewhere on the sheet, yet has a judge ever come up to me to talk to me when I did so?

Nope. They don't care unless you pitch a hissy fit like everyone else does.

3) I always shake hands, smile, wish them good luck...and know in about 30-45 minutes they're going to be pissed because they're going to be packing up their stuff. Now this year they can get at least an hours worth of gaming out of me.

Only one guy was actually nice the whole tournament last year. You know, a human being. I tried to throw the game his way by taking the auto-loser spot for that scenario but he took it like a man. He came in 2nd best painted (well he was really best painted by far but some crappy army won overall).

There was someone else who was nice, but it turns out he was a backstabbing little and not actually nice at all.
Staffer, too. I haven't forgotten.

So to answer your last question, I do do all of that. I just don't do what I said I don't do.

Last year, only 1 of 5 opponents was actually a grown man. The rest were epic fails in that regard. I got to play two unpainted armies too, it was awesome.

What I want to hear is the anecdotal evidence of Stelek's personal conduct during this tournament. Given that I have a base-line for judging the objectivity of anecdotal evidence posted on here, I figure I can confirm/disconfirm a few pet theories about the guy behind the forum identity.

i get similar crap after games as people dont like the way i play lol, one person had a problem because i wouldnt take his advise, apparently i was arrogant.
ive won enough games with my nids to know what im doing, not going to take tips from a tau player on how to fight CC lol.

other than that they mainly complain because ill request a smoke break
im not going more than an hour without a smoke lol.

Seers will be maxed, I think the Guardians will be too.

I've been playing a ton of No limit with a max $100 buy in for the last year in Florida so this will be interesting to see if I can hang in deep stack poker.

TI does have a poker room although I have not played there before.

I typically play about the same level of no-limit blinds you do ($1/$3) although sometimes I play $2/$5.
