The new scheme looks classic. I like it and think it will look better on the army as a whole. Glad your able to get crackin on the elfs again. My jobs been crazy as well, I too hope to get my HE done this year.

Thanks! I agree with the "look better on the army as a whole". I really don't get why it took me so long to notice how badly it was clashing with everything else.

Incidentally, I under-estimated how nice the red/silver combination works.

I especially like seeing how people paint horses. I only do enough
to paint, wash, highlight, and up close my mounts don't look very
horsey at all.

@malf: Honestly, I'm not doing much more past that myself. I pretty much just put a base-coat of about 1:2 Chaos Black:Fortress Grey over the horse, heavy wash with Badab Black and dry-brushed with Fortress gray. I'm probably going to have to do another wash/highlight, though.

That will probably improve the end result considerably. At least the effect on my chaos hounds was really helpful in achieving nice and smooth result.

Ha. It's only been half a year since I last posted.

Well, finally, after getting bogged down with work and other life issues, another update!

I finished off the horses for my first unit of Dragon Princes. All they need is some static grass and some varnish.

Anyways, getting some work done on the actual Dragon Princes now. Only the unit leader is done at the moment. None of them are gonna win me any awards, but they're definitely tabletop standard, and I'm somewhat pleased with how they're coming out.

Will try to fish out a group shot later on, though honestly, it's pretty much the one bolt-thrower, the block of spears (which still need touch-ups -__-) and these guys. I'm hoping to get a unit of archers done up before the end of the month. Mayhaps I'll take a snap a pic of them together once they're painted up (probably right after I finish these guys).

What's sad is that this thread spans almost a year now. Considering how innactive I've been for most of that, I'm pretty happy with how these guys are coming along. I feel like I'm getting a bit better at paint flow and brush control now. Thanks for the compliments!

This is a great army - as someone who once collected a High Elf Dragon Prince army (I think I am promising myself one once I have completed my other armies!) I really like this.

I think it might be cool to break up the color monotony with some green - that is another good Dragon color. My army was painted in quartered red and green armor (highlighted with sliver), black cloth and gold details.

@Darknight - thanks for the compliments! Yeah, I'm trying to figure out how to add a bit of "zazz" to the models. For instance, the Dragon Princes (these guys, at least) are getting blue helmet tassles, and blue gems are the generic color I'm going for.

Also, the Princes are pretty much done! I'm sure there're a couple of small little touch-ups here and there, but for the most part, I'm happy with how they're looking and am ready to get some varnish on these suckers. Also need to get them some shields, but those can also wait till after varnishing (and for humidity to drop so I can actually spray).

Given the crappiness of the last batch of pictures, I decided to construct myself a light box.

I took a random box I had lying around:


And after some cutting and taping of parchment paper, came up with this:


Took about 20-30 mins to make in total. Idea gleaned from this blog.


Anyways, thought I'd take a couple of pictures of my stuff with the new light box to see how it'd work out (also finally bougth a tripod for my camera so that my unsteadiness would be averted):

I'm pretty happy with how this light box is working out, though I may need to purchase some better lamps for lighting.
