I checked it, and it looks an awful lot to me like a powerfist is a 1 handed weapon, but a special character really has no bearing, they have X wargear no more no less and can break a few rules. because they are special.

If you could explain exactly where you are seeing powerfist as wargear that would help
Sorry, I accidently pulled out my wrong issue codex looking up wargear..... Current issue is under "one handed." But you are right, special character gets special rules.

A suggestion for young new gamers; Don't pull apart extra codexes to try and make "cheat sheets." Odds are, you'll get them confused.... or at least keep them organized better....

(I will, from now on, only reference DIRECTLY from my current WHOLE IG Codex....)

@Ghaz : Your agruement is not supported by anything, and since your arguement is reductionary, it needs to have support or it makes no sense. It's sort of like saying "the eggs are in the fridge" when no-body moved them there and they are obviously still sitting on the counter. The rules plainly do not state that the original weapons are forfeit (with the exception of special weapons squads), if someone wants to interpret this as it is plainly RAW, then the eggs are still on the counter.

Just because anyone agrees with anyone, doesn't mean they are correct. Beware the thin line between what is "Correct" and what is "Popular."
