Also, the TFC is not a vehicle, it is an artilery piece that could not be fired unless the tech marine was a crew(and indeed is removed from play if the IC dies). So I would throw that up as another arguement for the IC and TFC being only 1 KP.

The Marine codex spells out that the TFC is crewed by the Techmarine and that the techie loses his IC status as long as the TFC is operational.

Aye echoing what the other folks have said, if the cannon is destroyed, the techmarine just goes off on his own with a full servo harness and his standard kit of flamer/twin linked plasm gun.

I've fielded it now a couple of times and as like folks have said, it's great for tearing up hordes of low armor enemies. However given that it can't really be moved around a lot it's really vulnerable at the same time to certain things...(deepstriking demons i"m looking at YOU!) All in all, for 100 points it's not half bad and you get four blast templates on each shot, so that's definitely nice to play with for sure.

But yeah definitely a finicky beast with a very specific feature-set and advantages that makes it very tough to field, I'll probably have to try it out again.

Quick question: If you give the TFC a ride in a pod, does the techmarine go with it? Or are they deployed separately? If you take the TFC does the techmarine even have to be near it to fire it? On pg 73 of the codex it says nothing about the techmarine having to be near the cannon itself. Neither does it say anything about it on pg 142. It only says that you get a techmarine with it.

As they're taken as a unit, they would still be required to maintain coherency. Interestingly enough, the drop pod doesn't seem to have space for the techmarine. It only says it can hold '12 models, 1 Dreadnought or 1 Thunderfire Cannon' p 69. I imagine they intended that to have 'and crew' or were simply thinking of 1 Thunderfire Cannon unit, which would include the tech marine. I just thought it was an amusing little crossed wire in the entry.

If you kill the gun frist and then him you get two kill points it sounds like. Cause you kill the tech marine IC and the Gun HS

IMO, the techmarine is the HS. The TFC is artillery not a vehicle so it is never independent of the IC.

not sure if this'll help at all, but it says in the codex (pg 73)

each thunderfire cannon is crewed by a single techmarine. nte that the techmarine does not benefit from the IC and belssing of the omnissiah special rules unless his thunderfire cannon has been destroyed

I can see it having Great anti horde (particluarily 30-man squads (ORKS!!!)) ability; they have to take difficult AND dangerous terrain tests; 1/6th of them DEAD in addition to original kills
